Examinations # Essay For IELTS

Children have more and more tests and exams to do at school, sometimes starting from the age of 5 or 6 right to the age of 18. What are the advantages and disadvantages of making children take exams?
Write your answer in at least 250 words.

Examinations are the bug-bear of many students. They turn out to be ghost like creatures for some of the students, which brings out the worst in them. But there are even students who take exams very cool-headedly. Although some may say that exams are the worst part of education system, it must not be ignored that exams can prove to be really beneficial if taken in the right spirit. Like, you cannot blame the gun for murder, you can’t either blame the exams for pressure.

Exams certainly pose some good advantages to a student life. Firstly, if taken in right spirit, exams do help in finding the true skills of an individual. For example-: if a student works hard for the entire year, and gets 90 in math and 60 in English, he/she can easily know that their true skills lie in math and they can take it as their career. Exams even allows children to give their best, they in a certain way surely allow the students to push the envelope. Secondly, exams if taken with healthy competition allow an individual to grow. The fire to be the best can be easily ignited by the exams. Thirdly, exams help in making friends. For example-: students who study together often tend to become better friends than those who play together.

Although when social status is attached to exams, they prove to be quite disadvantageous. Firstly, exams bring in pressure, if taken in wrong way. For example-: if a parent beats a child for coming second in class instead of appreciating him/her, it can create feelings of loneliness and worthless pressure in them. Secondly, exams can even cause feelings of inferiority complex amongst students, if they are judged based on their marks in exams. For example-: if a student getting 50% marks is stereotyped as dumb, it could be quite damaging for that kid.

Overall, it can be said, that the advantages and disadvantages of exams depends on how an individual perceives it. If we want our kids to be fearless of exams, we need to change the way we look at exams.

Teenage Conflict # Essay For IELTS

Some people view teenage conflict with their parents as a necessary part of growing up, whilst others see it as something negative which should be avoided. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Write at least 250 words.

The most vulnerable years of a persons’ life are the teenage years, the years when a child gets rational, observes things around us with his/her own perspective and forms an image that lives with them for a long period of time. Apart from the external changes, a teenage even undergoes hormonal changes and they discover a new aspect of their body. All of these changes, internal and external, account for questions and confusions amongst them, often leading to conflicts.
Although some people are of the opinion that the conflicts must be avoided, I believe such frays are natural and must be handled with more wisdom than simple avoidance.

“Everyone sees the world with their own unique lenses”. As a result parents and children often have different points of view. For example-: A child on observing things around forms an opinion that God does not exist. Trying to suppress such thoughts and naming him/her as atheist, will only worsen the situation, as is often seen teenagers tend to feel lonely. Allowing such opinions to exist in their children, parents make them more independent and teach them that they need to stand by their own decisions and opinions and it is perfectly fine to be different. Suppressing them would make them more submissive in the later years of their lives.

Although, recently it has been observed that crimes committed by teenagers have increased in the past decade. The figures surely make parents concerned about their children. At this point suppressing conflicts is a better way to approach, but it must be made sure that you take your children into confidence first. Usually children are so scared of their parents that they don’t tell them the problems they are facing, often leading them to a whirlpool end.

To sum up, it can be said that, a teenage is like the growing bud, we need to make sure they get the right environment to grow in, so that they can think independently and yet learn the difference between right and wrong.

Fixed Punishment For Crimes # Essay For IELTS

Some people think a crime should always have a fixed punishment, like life imprisonment for murder, whereas others think you should take circumstances into account. What is your viewpoint?
Write at least 250 words.

Humans have created human like robots, but yet humans remain humans. Unlike the digital robots, who have a fixed yes or a no; a high bit or a low bit; human behavior is quite complicated. More importantly, the situations humans put themselves into are usually multi-faced. With apropos of this fact, I believe having a fixed punishment for a particular crime, could be unjustified in most of the cases.

Most of the people argue that a crime is a crime and must be punished with full severity, there are always multiple cases to it. For example-: a murder done in self defense cannot be regarded similar to the one done with cruel intentions. Therefore, giving a life imprisonment in both the cases could be unfair to the former. The next important thing to be taken into consideration is the mental condition of an individual committing a crime. For example-: consider a person who gets violent on seeing fire, sees someone lighting the gas and hits him/her. On the other hand, consider someone who out of ulterior motives hits someone. Rather than giving treatment to the former, if a fixed punishment is given, it will only worsen the situation.

On the other hand, it cannot be denied that we live in a corrupt society and the criminals have become more intelligent. Keeping loop holes in punishments help criminals to mold the law in their favor. For example-: a person can claim to be mentally unfit in front of law to get away with the punishment. Even more, often the lawyers and the individuals, for money, change the circumstances in which the crime took place.

Overall, it can be said that fixing a punishment for a crime could be disadvantageous for people who deserve a second call. To overcome the side effects of providing the loop holes, the law must be strengthened and provisions must be made to ensure people are not misusing the law for their own benefits.
