Sample Answer

Life has given me a lot of happiness and moments to celebrate with my near and dear ones. I have celebrated many happy moments by hosting parties for someone and attending other people’s parties as well.

I have attended many parties on different occasions in my life, but the most enjoyable one was a party that I held to mark my elder sister’s twenty-fifth birthday. It was a surprise party that I planned with the help of my mother. It was on the twenty-fifth of September last year, and I had started to plan it two days before. After my sister left for work in the morning, I started decorating our garden and installing the setup, including the tables and chairs. My mother started baking her favourite chocolate cake while I called all her friends and our relatives to the party in the evening. I then proceeded to order snacks and appetisers along with the beverages for the evening. The celebrations finally commenced, and all the guests had arrived before she came. We welcomed her with the birthday song and hugs from everyone.

We all had an amazing time at the party. Everybody socialised; we played party games, danced and had a lot of fun throughout the evening. The best part was the fact that everyone was happy with the celebration and there were smiles all around me. My sister got gifts from everyone and was all smiles when I gifted her a necklace. She was spellbound and thanked me profusely for organising such an amazing party.

Sample Answer 2:

Frankly speaking, I am not a party buff and usually attend only those parties wherein I know some people or there is something exciting going on. The party that I am going to talk about is the one I went to last year. It was my friend’s friend’s birthday bash, and she invited all of us. Initially, I was fine with going there, but later on my friend told me she could not come along, and I almost cancelled my plan when my friend’s friend actually called and invited me again to come.

Hesitantly, I said a ‘yes’, and I would say that was the best ‘yes’ I had ever said. The party was in Rishikesh, a tourist spot in Uttarakhand, India. It was a night party, and there were campfires, music, dance, games and a lot of interesting people. To my surprise, Anusha, i.e., my friend’s friend, knew a lot of people and had invited them all. And I met and talked to many interesting people that I might otherwise never have come across! This included the self-employed interior designers, marathon runners, entrepreneurs, and writers. It was exciting to talk to them and find out how they are connected with the host.

Not only were the people great, but the food and other services were also fantastic. There were stalls of different kinds, and one could eat whatever they wished. And it was really tasty food too!!

What’s more, I discovered that actually, I did know quite a few people there after all. I am almost won over. Next time she offers to host a party, I might even find myself looking forward to it; you never know.

IELTS Speaking Part 3: questions related to parties/celebrations

Question. 1: What are the main reasons why people organise family parties in your country?

Answer: Family parties are very popular in my country. Most people organise special parties on birthdays and marriage anniversaries. Some young adults give parties after getting good grades in their exams or after being promoted to a high-level position.

Question 2: In some places people spend a lot of money on parties that celebrate special family events. Is this ever true in your country? Do you think this is a good trend or a bad trend?

Answer: Yes, wealthy people in my country throw lavish parties to celebrate special family functions. The pictures of their parties are often shown in newspapers. Even though it’s their own money, I feel that it’s a disturbing trend. It promotes discrimination in society and widens the gap between the rich and the poor.

Question 3: Are there many differences between family parties and parties given by friends? Why do you think this is?

Answer: Yes, there are. Family parties tend to be more formal as compared to parties organised by friends. Social decorum and elegance both are maintained in family functions. On the other hand, people feel freer in the parties of their friends. They normally don’t mind too much drinking or dancing, but in family functions any kind of misbehaviour can create a lot of problems.

National celebrations
Question 4: What kinds of national celebrations do you have in your country?

Answer: My country has two main national celebrations: the Independence Day and the Republic Day. Independence Day is celebrated on 15th August, and Republic Day is celebrated on 26th January.

Question 5: Why do some people think that national celebrations are a waste of government money? Would you agree or disagree with this view? Why?

Answer: Some governments spend huge sums of money on national celebrations. If a country is facing problems like unemployment, illiteracy, poverty or poor infrastructure, then people will certainly complain about the money spent on national functions. In my view, the government should focus on the development of the nation rather than showcasing their military might in national celebrations.

Level IELTS Band 9 There are numerous national and international companies in my country. Today, I’m going to talk about an organisation I would like to be a part of. The name of the organisation is the Indian Space Research Organisation, commonly known as the ISRO. It is the space agency of the government of India headquartered in Bangalore, Karnataka. It was founded by Dr Vikram Sarabhai in 1969. The ISRO has many centres which are located in different regions of India. I have a keen interest in celestial objects like stars, galaxies and black holes. My father’s close friend is a scientist in the ISRO. I have learnt a lot about the projects of this organisation from him. In addition, I had the opportunity to visit the ISRO Satellite Center on a school trip. Over the last 47 years, the ISRO has emerged as one of the six largest space agencies in the world. It develops and delivers services in various fields. Communication, weather forecast, disaster management tools, geographic information systems, navigation, telemedicine and distant education satellites are some of them. Its mission of using space research for the development of the nation has always inspired me to become a scientist.

IELTS Speaking Task Cue Card

Describe a worth watching theatrical performance.

    You should say:

  • What the performance was about?
  • Where it took place?
  • How was the acting and quality of the production?
  • And explain why it was worth watching.
IELTS Speaking latest cue card 2020. Describe an indoor game that you liked to play when you were a child? What is it? With whom did you play it?
SAMPLE ANSWER –

Indian theatre is one of the ancient forms of Asian theatre that has prevailed for centuries. The modern theatre of my country mainly consists of university drama communities that generally have a message to deliver to the spectators. The play that I watched was about a response to a violent gang rape and subsequent death of a student in 2012 in Delhi. This rape case shocked the whole country, and people greatly sympathised with the victim and the family.

Recently, on my visit to Delhi, my cousin took me to attend a theatrical show that was being organised in his university. I was more curious to watch it when he told me about the theme of the play.

The play’s name was ‘Nirbhaya’, which symbolises ‘fearless’ in Hindi. The play was written and produced by a renowned South African playwright, and the entire cast and backstage workers were Indian. This play mainly aimed to break through the silence among women who have suffered gender-based violence. The quality of production and the whole performance were remarkable and could easily be observed by the audience’s expression and applause.

I consider that this theatrical show was a thought-provoking one, as it delivered the message of societal change that is much required in our community. It was a compelling depiction of the awful truth that an innocent student had gone through when she boarded a bus with her male friend in the busy streets of Delhi. The hard-hitting truth clearly shows that we could not be silent anymore. Lastly, it was the most powerful and emotional theatre play that I’ve ever seen.

HAPPIEST-SITUATION Best IELTS Band 7 Coaching in Dehradun

Part 2 Cue Card

Describe a skill (for example, driving, speed reading etc.) you have learned successfully
You should say:

  • What skill you have learned?
  • Why you learned it?
  • Who helped you learn it?

and explain what helped you to become good at the skill.

Sample Answer

Skills play a defining role in our lives. They make us more efficient and productive. Today, I am going to talk about a skill that I learnt successfully.
Two years ago, I learnt how to drive a car. I live in the countryside, and my workplace is about 20 km away from my home. When I started working, either my father or my sister used to drop and pick me up at the office every day. But, after a while, this daily duty became an unnecessary burden for them, as they have their own jobs. In general, I am a confident person, but this dependency on others affected my self-esteem. So, I immediately decided to take driving lessons.
There is a well-known driving school near my home. I contacted the school and took two months’ training. The trainer was very friendly. He always gave clear instructions and prepared me really well for the driving test. Later, I successfully passed the driving test and obtained my driving licence.
Driving is a skill which takes a lot of time to master. But, once you overcome the fear of driving on crowded roads, it gives you immense satisfaction and pleasure. The same thing applies to me. To improve my car-driving skills, I drove daily to my office and to other nearby locations. I used to make mistakes at the beginning, but I always took a note of them and tried not to repeat them.
In short, my commitment, perseverance and dedication helped me become a skilled driver.

Part 2, Part 3 Follow-up questions

Skills and everyday life
Q. 1 Can you compare the skills that are important nowadays with the skills that were important 20 or 30 years ago?
Sample answer: Twenty/thirty years ago, traditional skills like weaving, knitting, sewing and earthenware pottery making were an integral part of people’s lives. But, nowadays, computer, management, language, and data analysis skills are given more importance.
Q. 2 What skills are valued most in your country?
Sample answer: My country is a developing nation, and there are many sectors such as banking, manufacturing, information technology, tourism, etc. In almost every sector, basic computer skills and communication skills are of utmost significance.
Q. 3 What kind of skills might be important in the future?
Sample answer: This is an interesting question. Considering the amount of data generated every day, I think that in the future the demand for research and data analysis skills will rise considerably.
Skills and training
Q.4 What qualities does a good trainer need to have?
Sample answer: In my opinion, a professional trainer should have a wide range of skills. Firstly, he/she should possess an in-depth knowledge of his field. Secondly, he/she must be friendly, punctual and impartial. Thirdly and most importantly, he/she should lead by example.
Q. 5: Why should companies invest a lot of money in training?
Sample answer: Training programmes are vital for the growth of a company. A company with trained staff is more likely to outperform its competitors. Regular training sessions upgrade the knowledge and skills of employees, which in turn leads to higher productivity and profitability. For this reason, many companies spend a major part of their annual budget on different types of trainings.
Q. 6 Do you think schools and universities prepare young people well for the future employment?
Sample answer: Not really. I think that secondary schools and universities in most parts of the world focus too much on conventional academic subjects like mathematics, science, history, etc. Professional skills are often neglected. This imbalance between theoretical and practical knowledge has a negative impact on the future job prospects of young people.
