Teaming up with an elderly can be a memorable experience. Today, I’m going to share one such experience with you.

I was in 10^th class. The preparation for board exams was a never ending process. I found it quite hard to stick to a monotonous routine. Finally, the exams got over but they had drained my energy. All I wanted was a change in my daily routine. My parents were working full-time. They took many days off during my exams. Naturally, it wasn’t possible for them to take me on a holiday. At last, I asked my grandfather if he could come and take me to the village.

To my surprise, he came the very next day. I was very excited about my holidays. I packed my bag and we happily set off in the afternoon. We reached the village late in the evening. My grandfather showed me the house. Even though it was dark, I could clearly see some work was going on in the garden. My grandpa said we would work together tomorrow.

The morning was beautiful. After breakfast I went to the garden. It looked a little rusty and needed a make-over. My grandpa was building a bench. I observed him for a while and then joined him. The bench was ready in the evening. We decided to place it in front of the pond. Our next plan was to plant some new colourful flowers. He had already bought pots of many different shapes and sizes. So, I helped him in filling them in with soil and compost and planting flowers like marigolds, lilies and dahlias etc. We kept all plants at different places. I dug out a fire pit too.

Our garden renovation project lasted for more than a week. I loved it as each day was different. We could see the progress of our work which gave us a sense of fulfillment. Together we transformed a dull garden into a lovely outdoor space. All in all, it was the best time I’ve ever spent with an old man. I will never forget those holidays.

I believe serving the society is equivalent to serving oneself in true sense as humans are crucial elements of the society. I think that every responsible citizen has got one thing or other to contribute to society. For instance, a scholar contributes by his knowledge, a policeman contributes by maintaining law and order, a doctor contributes by making people disease free and healthy. But, yes, we have some significant contributors, which possess more talent and resourcefulness than others. I think, considering the pace and direction at which the world is moving, pioneering the advanced streams of science and technology is a very active contribution to the society and the mankind. Elon musk is one person who has endeavoured to synergise his private corporation to research in the most unexplored streams of science and technology. I first heard about him in news, when I came to know his plan to launch his own space mission.

Well, his research and subsequent applications have a tremendous momentum for the future of the mankind. The most unfathomable depths of several undetermined domains are being investigated by his contributions. Space technology, Digital evolution, energy conservation and optimization, artificial intelligence and advanced molecular genetics are some of the key areas that have not been understood fully to this day and he hold this inertia of knowing the unknown, which is a boon to the society.

I admire Elon musk for few distinguished potentials of his adventurous spirit. The pace and audacity of his research applications is remarkable. With every passing year, he has contributed significantly by his quest for innovation and relentless zeal to make the world a better place. He not only has that risk appetite but capacity too which translate into the most advanced inventions of the times.

Sample answer: A person can contribute to the society in any manner which assists in the better functioning of the society. Helping the poor uneducated masses by educating them and generating employment avenues is a notable contribution to the society. By being a part of government and contributing actively in smooth execution of its policies and programmes is an active contribution to society.

Q. 2 How can the wealthy people contribute to the society?

Sample answer: Wealthy people can contribute to the society by charity and donations. They can spend their money on free schools, hospitals and other infrastructure projects. This, in turn, will culminate into productive population in society. They can help government in undertaking massive PPP projects, which will generate employment and facilitate the capacity building measures on a large scale.

Sample answer: Ideally, politicians are entitled with the job of taking care of the people and society at large. It is their task assigned by constitution, to formulate and execute policies for the welfare of the people and betterment of society. But, I feel that politicians lack integrity and they are dishonestly performing their duties. They are selfishly busy in their personal pursuits, rather than contributing to society.

Sample answer: Selfless service as taken up by a few illuminating figures like Gandhiji, Mother Teresa, Vinoba bhave; is the highest service to people, society and to the almighty. I strongly believe in selfless service. Whenever I get the chance, I go to orphanages and teach the students. I usually visit the poor and marginalised and try to help them in any possible manner. I believe, compassion and empathy are essential for selfless service to the people.

Family acts as an eternal bond in our lives. No matter what, a person’s primary driving force on this earth is the family where he is born and brought up, where he learns love, care, kindness and many such high ended values. We all love and respect each other in our families. But, there are certain accomplishments made by certain people in the family which make you feel proud of them. One such similar incident made me feel proud of my little sister, Apoorva.

It happened when she, after pursuing her degree in mass communication and journalism, was working with a famous news channel as a journalist. She was posted in Mumbai, in 2008.It was then, in September 2008, when Taj tragedy took place and Mumbai was hijacked by terrorists for few hours.

My sister was the one, who covered and broadcasted that mayhem in real time on national news channel. When Mumbai woke up to the first terrorist shot, from that moment onwards, my sister was actively covering all the tension territories one by one. When the terrorists were firing openly in public spaces, she risked her life by being there in a corner, with her third eye covering every evil moment. She portrayed the faces and nefarious acts of those terror perpetrators by her live coverage, which was very helpful for the intelligence surveillance. She left no stone unturned in gathering enough evidence against those terrorists, who were prepared to die, in order to hide their source and identity in interrogation. Later on, these video clippings would become a visual evidence of state sponsored terrorism by our neighbour country. Later on, she was the first broadcaster to reflect upon the malintentions of our neighbour and courage of our commandoes in Mission Taj, killing all the terrorists and rescuing the hostages. She was awarded by the President of India for her valorous patriotic journalism.

Obviously, I felt very happy to see my sister covering the news in real time. For a moment, I felt fearful about my sister, who, despite being a woman, was actively airing the bullets and explosions. But, then I realized how brave act my sister was displaying and I felt like saluting her out the pride she evoked in our family.

When an action is performed for enshrining the high values and endorsing the true virtues, then that actions attracts honour and we feel proud of the performer. For instance, brave soldiers sacrificing their lives for the country, are honourable figures and we all feel proud of them.

Sample answer: We should always encourage the spirits of children while they are performing any task. We can boost the enthusiasm by positive reinforcements. For instance, presenting a gift to a child after his excellent academic performance acts as a positive reinforcement and motivates the child to perform higher deeds.

I got my first job, only recently. It is a finance firm dealing primarily in the audits and market research. I was appointed as a business analyst. My rented flat is quite a distance afar from my office. Public conveyance in Gurgaon, had always been in a bad shape, so I decided to go for a Bullet, Enfield bike, which was my favourite bike, ever since the days, when I used to sit in front on its petrol tank and my father used to drive one of those maiden bullets, with the new features introduced in India, in early 80’s. Rather, it was a craze for every masculine guy in our country, when there were very few choices in such sports bikes. I went to a showroom near my house and bought a jet black royal bike for myself. Not only my daily commute to and from office became convenient, rather I was enjoying the ride on my first favourite bike.

I entered the Enfield bike studio, located in Sec 14 market, Gurgaon, with a broad smile and a cheers on my face. I took some time to observe the latest models and selected my favourite black bullet, 350 cc standard. I did not like the outlook of the new models. Outlook of this bullet was as usual robust, compact and and simply outstandingly elegant. I asked for a test drive. I was in my fourth dimension while taking the test ride on this bike after a long, long time. I was driving crazy out of excitement. I enjoyed the gallop, shooting swiftly at 140 kmph. Finally, I returned to the showroom, signed a check worth the price and came back home riding my new Enfield bike.

While driving the new bike, I felt it a little lighter in weight and it had this new red button for the kick less start. I had had an image of antiquity for this bike, which was interfered by these silly alterations introduced lately. I could even feel the dampness in the exhaust roar, which was disliked and objected by my friend also. The sound, which this bike used to generate, was something that gave it that classy touch but even that sound was tempered in the new model. Out of my excitement and long gap of driving, I could not appraise these limitations while taking the test drive. Then I realized that all these features, introduced for the new generation, are actually hijacking the true spirit of this bike and I actually spent more than what I expected. By adding a little more money, I could have fetched a Yazidi roadster for myself with the superior male features and better performance.

Lower shelf life, in turn, will create the demand more frequently, thereby adding profits to the manufacturers.

Sample answer: I do not hesitate in spending on a thing I like, if I have that much money. But, I have learnt over the time that quality and utility of an article should be proportionate to the amount spent, otherwise it feels like duping.

Q. 3 Do you think that a brand should uphold its integrity?

Sample answer: Yes, a brand becomes a brand because of the certain distinguished features which are superior to it counterparts. Therefore, a compromise on integrity will adulterate the quality and brand then longer holds the same esteem. Eventually, customer base will also be eroded over the time.
