Sample Answer:

We come across different kinds of noises that disturb us daily as there is a lot of noise pollution in India. So, I am going to talk about one such instance where a fan made a raucous. It was the time of summers and I was sitting in the examination hall, ready to give my entrance exam for IIT. It was an old government school building which had a worn out fan on the ceiling.
It constantly made a caterwauling sound which broke my concentration and I couldn’t properly focus on my exam. I could feel that it was disturbing almost every candidate sitting in the hall but we all knew we had to take control of our senses and outperform in the test, as everybody had been preparing for it since last two years. It was scorching hot so we couldn’t even think of turning it off. I felt that it was galling to have such a problem during an important exam. However, I knew how important that exam was for me, I gathered all my senses, took a deep breath and gave my best to the exam. Once the time ran out everyone started going out of the exam hall, I could again hear the shriek sound of the fan but this time it didn’t irritate me and I felt joyful that my exam went well.
Today when I look back I realised that one should always have the skill to have a control over their senses and focus on what is more important.

IELTS Cue Card # Describe a time you made a promise to someone

IELTS Cue Card Describe a time you made a promise to someone

Describe a time you made a promise to someone
You should say:
– Whom did you make the promise to
– What the promise was
– Why you made the promise
– Was the promise easy to achieve

Sample Answer:

Several times in life, we come across situations where we make commitments to different people. Today I would like to talk about one promise that I made to my family when I was in school. I was in grade 10th when I had promised my parents that I will score above 90 percent in my boards examination.
I was always an average student in school while other kids in my neighbourhood were either brilliant or above-average which sometimes made me self conscious and I was always apprehensive if I would ever be able to make my parents as proud and happy as other parents in our neighbourhood. So I made this promise to my parents and to myself that I will prove to be better than my past and show that I’m capable of performing exceptionally well even in the academics.
As there is a saying that, it is easier to make promises but it is hard to keep them. Likewise even I had to work really hard to keep this promise. I first worked on my weak points. Time management was the most essential part to achieve my goals and I drafted a good time-table with daily time-bound goals. It was not an easy task and I had to burn the midnight oil. Gradually I started seeing good results in school’s term examinations and pre boards. Finally, after a year’s preparation, I appeared for my class 10th Board exams and performed well. The results were outstanding and I was happy to keep my promise. Though it was not really easy to keep this promise but this journey towards success always helps me to be motivated in life.

Since my childhood I have been into Indian classical music, it fills me up with joy and pleasure. Undoubtedly my favourite celebrity is a great musician. The name of this person is A.R. Rahman. He is a film composer, producer, singer and songwriter who works predominantly in Tamil and Hindi films.

Some of my favourite songs by him are kun faya kun, tum ho, phir se ud chala. I like listening to his interviews on the internet, wherein he tells about the technicalities of classical singing in a very easy and practical manner.
The magic of his composition is what makes me his admirer. And apart from that he is also a great human being. Once I got a chance to meet him at Chennai airport and I was impressed by his generosity.

He has played a major role in introducing our beautiful music culture to the rest of the world. He has been awarded with Padma Bhushan, Academy Award for best music and Grammy awards for the 2008 film Slumdog millionaire.

I like him for his modest nature and his remarkable work in Indian Cinema. He has multiple times represented India on a global level and I think we need more musicians like him to make our cultural music popular in the globe and I am sure a lot of musicians see him as a role model.

A couple of weeks back during my home quarantine period i saw a TV commercial about the launch of a pizza that was somewhat like a burger, they named it “Bizza”. The commercial was very well presented and that I started craving for it. As I was not supposed to step out of my home due the pandemic, I opted for a home delivery. I ordered it with Coke and Fries, as they were giving a special discount on this combo pack. After ordering it, even waiting for half an hour seemed so difficult, moreover due to precautionary measures the delivery boy took even more time to deliver. But finally I got my order after a long wait of 45 minutes. As soon as I received it, I sanitized the outer packaging. The aroma that came from the parcel excited me even more. I opened the packet, it was a burger pizza by domino’s which had oven-baked buns with loads of cheese and pizza sauces. It felt so much fresh and unique to try out, I had never tasted anything similar to it. It brought mere joy to my face after savouring it. I felt amazing when I ate it and I’m glad that I ordered it.
