IELTS CUE CARD SAMPLE ANSWER FESTIVAL

Sample Answer One

Our country is a secular nation where people of different religions live together. So, there are lots of festivals that people celebrate across the nation. But, I think Diwali is a festival that is celebrated all over India among people of different religions and customs.

Diwali is a festival of lights. Interestingly, its date depends on the Indian astrologers. But, normally, it is celebrated in the last week of October or the first week of November. This festival signifies the victory of the good over evil. The preparations and rituals typically extend over a five-day period, but the main festival night of Diwali coincides with the darkest, new moon night of the Hindu calendar month called Kartika.

It is believed that on this day, Rama, a Hindu god, came back to India after defeating Ravana, a demon. It was also the end of his 14 years of exile. Before Diwali, people clean, renovate and decorate their homes and offices. On that day, people dress up in new clothes or their best outfits and light up oil lamps made from clay inside and outside their homes. They participate in family prayers to Lakshmi – the goddess of wealth and prosperity.

After prayers,  a family feast including delicious sweets begins. This is followed by fireworks and the exchange of gifts between family members and close friends. Diwali is important to me because it brings the whole family together. We are living in a world where people are migrating and have less time, but for us, no matter what the work is, no matter where we are Diwali means a Reunion. The entire family is together and we exchange talks and laughs together.

Sample Answer Two

India is a land of different cultures and people from all walks of life call it home. It has many traditions, customs, and different religions. Festivals are an important part of a religion as they give us reasons to celebrate and different festivals have different significances. Even though there are many different festivals which are celebrated with great joy and happiness in our country, my favorite festival is Christmas. It’s a Christian festival celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ which falls on the 25th of December every year.

It’s that time of the year when the wind is cold and the woolen jackets are out. Schools are closed for winter break and the streets are lit up with lights of different colors. Luckily as I live in the northern part of the country I have been able to celebrate a few white Christmas over the course of years. My city has a lot of Anglo-Indian heritage so a lot of locals flock the church on Christmas Eve to light up a candle. It is beautiful to witness such communal harmony as the majority of the population in the city itself are Hindus.

It’s a great time for business and locals who work in the tourist sector as loads of tourist come to visit the nearby hill station. Shopping malls and local markets are filled with customers and plenty of attractive discounts are also available in these festive times. We celebrate with a traditional dinner at our home and all the friends and family gather to sing carols. Some great homemade wine is served to all those in attendance and we exchange presents with one another. In the end, it’s all about tradition and even though my entire family lives in different corners of the world, everyone manages to find the time and come home for Christmas to spend some great time with the loved ones. The spirit of Christmas brings us all together.

IELTS Cue Card # Talk about any law in your country

IELTS Cue Card: Talk about any law in your country

You should say:
• What is the law?
• Why is it important?
• When was it implemented?
• Explain what steps have been taken to implement it.

IELTS Cue Card Sample Answer:

In my view, when it comes to effective administration in a large democratic country like India, the legislature needs strict laws. But, it should be taken into consideration that the government should not take away the rights and freedom enjoyed by its citizens. For this, the Indian constitution provides a powerful law. Today, I will be talking about a law which comes under the article 32 of the Indian constitution.
According to this law, any citizen of India can move to the supreme court directly if he finds any of his fundamental right unprotected and the apex court can issue a writ in that case. This law is also called the heart and soul of the Indian constitution.
This law has an immense importance. It not only acts as a safeguard of the fundamental rights of the Indian citizens but acts as a watchdog on the government. It applies reasonable restrictions on the ruling party and its wilful working style. In short, it provides a provision that the parliament cannot override the constitution in any case.
This law was implemented with the commencement of the Indian constitution on 26th January 1950. Interestingly, various judgements have been made in favour of this law since then. To be honest, I am not aware of any steps that have been taken to implement it.

Cue Card Sample Answer:

In today’s globalized world, English is considered as a lingua franca. Today, I’m going to talk about how I learnt this foreign language. Well, I have been in touch with English since my primary school. So, I am an early starter. But, to be honest, I didn’t take English seriously in my school days and studied this language just for examination purposes. Considering its difficulty level, I was well-versed with the reading and writing but I found it very difficult to communicate in English. When I reached the university level, I faced many problems while expressing my views. Therefore, I decided to pay attention to my communication skills, grammar and vocabulary. My English Professor has an imperative role in motivating me.
It’s been five years since I began working on my verbal communication skills. Today, I can confidently claim that I have effective presentation skills and my hard work has been paid off. As I am working as a human resource manager, English plays a pivotal role in my job. I have to interact with the staff members and clients on a daily basis. More importantly, to excel in my profession and to bring the best talent to my organization, I have to be a step ahead of others. Definitely, it won’t be possible without the knowledge of English language.

IELTS Cue Card Sample Answer # Teacher Who Influenced You

Describe a teacher who influenced you in your education.
You should say :
– Where you met him/her?
– What subjects she/he taught you?
– What was special about him or her?

Explain why this person influenced you so much.

Teachers play a very important role in moulding the lives of a child. I consider myself lucky to get several good teachers throughout my academic years. One of the teachers was, Mr. Swatantra Gupta. He was our English and social science teacher in class VII and taught us English in subsequent classes. He was a really good mentor and guided all of us in the right direction.

Initially we thought that he does not know how to teach but later on I realised that not only was his way of teaching unique, it was also effective. In the social science class, he used to make everyone stand up and speak out the lesson. We thought, may be he is lazy enough not to speak for himself, but after few months we realised that it was because of him that our pronunciation and style of speaking had improved.

He used to particularly make me stand up and ask me to read the entire lesson. It was tiring but at the same time, very exciting. He even pushed to take part in different competitions and plays and suggested my name to the principal for the district debate competition.

I think it was his faith in me that I actually started working on my strengths and become more confident.
