IELTS Cue Card #Describe a resolution you made in new year

Sample Answer :

New year arrival is considered to be an auspicious beginning of the good things in our lives. People like to streamline their lives with adoption of productive activities and creative inspirations. On the other hand, they want to get rid of malicious thoughts with a new start on new year eve. Such vows provide an anchor to affix determination needed to accomplish a particular task or behaviour. On this new year, I also made a resolution, which is to achieve a band score greater than 8 in IELTS exam. Last year, I attempted this exam only once and I got a band score of 7. I have the requirement of higher band in order to crash through the best universities abroad. I was lacking in my time devotion and sincere hard work, therefore, I decided to bring corrections by taking this resolution.

To fulfil this resolution, I would be working very hard with a proper result oriented approach. The brilliant techniques elaborated by my teachers would be instrumental in enhancing my approach and methodology of preparation. Study material provided by the institute would be learnt by heart. I shall be focused on my studies and would be devoting extra hours for my study sessions. Moreover, I shall be attending every classroom session this time, which I used to miss previously. Along with that, I would be involving myself in speaking and listening sessions with my friend, informally too. After meticulous efforts and virtuously working upon the feedbacks, provided by teachers for improvement, I am confident of getting a score of band 9.

There are no permanent fulfilments or failures. By fulfilling my resolution, I would feel confident and the sense of accomplishment would sweep me with joy and enthusiasm. But, even in case of failure I won’t be deterred by the disappointment. With my relentless spirit and undying hope, I shall reappear in the exam and will crack it with greater efforts.

Follow-up Questions

Q. 1 When did you make resolution on new year, first time? Why?

Sample answer: I still remember making my first new year resolution when I was in fourth standard. Our class teacher instructed us to take up a fresh resolution on every new year. This helps us to channelize our energies in a manner, so as to achieve our resolved ambition.

Q. 2 Do you personally think that resolutions help us achieve our goals?

Sample answer: Yes, I am an ardent supporter of faith and confidence within oneself. Vows help us in providing a flagpost reference, a motivation, by looking at which, consistently, we can keep ourselves focused and determined in our actions.

Q. 3 Do you think that one possesses regrets, in case of not fulfilling a resolution?

Sample answer: I believe that one should be honest with himself at all the times. Imbibing honesty in all your actions directed towards the resolution fulfilment. By doing that, one can feel confident of putting his best efforts. Despite that, if one meets failure, he should not be dejected with a bag of regrets. He should rather prolong his resolution for the next best attempt.

Q. 4 Do you think resolutions as necessary in any endeavour?

Sample answer: Not at all. I do not consider resolution as the only sufficient measure to achieve goals. With a sense of responsibility and apt maturity, one can affirm and internalize the same degree of sincerity and motivation within him. If one keeps his motivation alive all the time, then one may not cling to the psychological hook of resolution.

IELTS CUE CARD # DESCRIBE AN IMPRESSIVE ADVERTISEMENT YOU REMEMBER WELL. Best IELTS Band 7 Coaching in dehradun

SAMPLE ANSWER-

There are several advertisements we come across while watching television or surfing the internet.. I used to either find advertisement monotonous due to which I didn’t paid much attention to them. Lately, while watching videos on YouTube, a Vicks advertisement grabbed my attention. It was a short story about a transgender woman activist and her adopted daughter.

Vicks is a P&G owned cold and cough brand, which broadcasted a short story on ‘Touch of Care’. The advertisement gave a strong message on adoption and transgender rights. The video commences with a daughter and her transgender mother on their way to the boarding school, recounting all the memories that they’ve cherished together so far. Though her mother wanted her to become a doctor, her daughter reveals her ambition of becoming a lawyer.

The contents of this short digital film were mainly about a close connection between a daughter and mother even though the society opposed to this pure relationship. Gayatri, the adopted daughter wanted to become a lawyer and fight against the unfair legal treatment to transgender in India. The orphan girl innocently questions the society about why her mother is denied fundamental rights if everyone gets this privilege. This question by a naïve child is an eye-opener for the society we live in.

I cannot forget about this particular advertisement mainly because of the stigma shown in it. Even after the Supreme Court passed a law for the transgender, these people continue to face bias and humiliation in the Indian society. In the advertisement which lasted for nearly two minutes, the campaign was successful enough to deliver a powerful moral.

Describe a stressful day at school/ work.

  • How did the day start?

And explain why was it stressful?

stress Best IELTS Band 7 Coaching in dehradun

Sample Answer

There are many stressful days that I can recall during my studies and my work. But a particular one from my work comes to mind clearly. It was two years ago in the month of December during my first job. My team was working on a project that had a short deadline. The client was a major one, and the task was very difficult.

I was a part of an eight-member team who worked day and night to complete a working draft of the project two days before the submission date. The problems started after reviewing it when we found out many small issues throughout the application.

Without wasting time I started working on solving the problems and came back home from work very late. I was thinking of taking rest as the next day was my weekly off. Suddenly, late in the evening, I received a call from the office and had to rush back as the solutions were not working out as the team’s work was not systematic.

I started working again and went on through the night. I was tired and sleepless but I kept on working since the work was a priority. After a quick meeting with my team, I went back home for an hour and then returned to the office. Taking the day off was not an option and I spent the entire day running around the office working on the project. We were finally able to create the final draft for the client late in the night just before the submission date. It was indeed a hectic day but I am not tensed by such experiences just because they teach us a lot of things.

Describe something useful you learned from a member of your family.

You should say:

  • What you learned?
  • How this became useful later in your life?
  • Have you taught it to someone?

and explain why it was important for you.

IELTS Speaking Cue Card # Describe something useful you learned from a member of your family. Best IELTS Band 7 Coaching in dehradun

SAMPLE ANSWER-

Family members are said to be the first teachers in an infant’s life. There are innumerable family values and skills which a child can learn to thrive in life. Here, I’d like to tell about the most important lesson I learned from my parents about never to waste your talents. They taught me this lesson because they’d made the same mistake and didn’t wanted me to take the wrong step in the future.

My father is a natural singer, he loves singing but my grandparents underestimated his ability and never recognized his true personal talent. Ultimately, he had to join the family business thereby leaving his passion behind. Similarly, my mother had a passion for fashion but she sacrificed her interests for her in-laws. I was in my university days, stuck in a dilemma when my parents gave me this negative example so that I could find the right path for myself.

Though I haven’t personally taught this to someone, whenever my friends are confused about something, I advise them to follow their dreams. My parents always taught me that life is too short to repent your actions.

This lesson is very meaningful to me because I pursued engineering but my heart was never in it. Later, I gained the courage to leave the course and start my own business. Because one should chase their passion instead of worrying about society’s criticism and mock. My business of wedding planning is running successfully and I owe this achievement to my parents.

Speak about a skill that you learnt from older people.

  • What was that skill and from whom did you learn it?
  • How did you learn it?
  • Did you find the skill helpful and how?

And Have you imparted the skill to anyone afterwards?

SAMPLE ANSWER TWO-

Learning is a process in which you train yourself with a set of skills in a consistent manner over a period of time. It is an unending ever evolving process. To claim that I have learnt everything, is a vicarious affirmation made out of personal ignorance. Elders contain the virtue of experience which encompasses the skills imperative for leading a healthy lifestyle. I learnt the art of patience, how it is nurtured and preserved within oneself. I learnt it from my father.

I always sit with my retired father in the evenings, after a long day of work, full of conflicts and discontentment. Additionally, I discuss with him, the confluence of several variables in my work which make the things unpredictable and desired outcomes may be suffered because of this. My father would then instruct me about wisdom and associated virtues. He would lay emphasis on patience, how upkeep of patience will allow me to stay calm and happy even in troubled waters. At first, I found it difficult to hold patience in my rough moods. But with repeated practice and proper internalization, I became the master of my will.

Indeed, practicing patience in everyday life is an art that helped me immensely. Unfavourable outcomes, not meeting desired results in stipulated time and not receiving what is expected out of someone or something, were few common recurring experiences, which used to agitate me with remorse and chagrin. After cultivating patience in my daily routine, my perspective towards failures shifted upside down. Acceptance for every event grew multifolds and a subtle pleasure became a part of myself.  I feel good about myself and everything around me.

As such, I have not imparted the skill to anyone formally. But, yes, I informed few of my friends about the radical changes induced in my behaviour and mannerisms because of my embracing the patience and anxiety free attitude.

Then he is asked to practice the skill with focused attention and in the last step when he develops dexterity, he can continue with the task even with divided attention. Q. 2 Which skills are weakened and which strengthened in older age?

Sample answer: In old age, physical faculties lose their strength and vitality. Because of this, physical skills like rope climbing, jumping, running etc. are diminished. On the other hand, with the vast experience and wisdom, skill of decision making and judgment16 becomes stronger over the time.

Q. 3 How does the environment help in learning skills?

Sample answer: Environment is our silent teacher. It teaches us almost everything. Even the learning from the parents and friends is an environmental learning. Boat making skill, Tree house skill, hunting skills and so many other proficiencies are learnt by  Mowgli, because of the environmental teachings.
