IELTS Speaking latest cue card 2020. Describe an important journey that was delayed? Why was it important? What caused the delay? What happened at the end?

SAMPLE ANSWER

I travel often and have had wonderful experience mostly. But there was one particular journey recently which I can recall was delayed and turned into an adventure. I always try to be punctual but on this particular journey when although I was on time, my journey was delayed. It was due to my own error and carelessness. I was supposed to travel from Delhi to Jaipur on a Sunday evening so that I could attend my cousin’s wedding.

Since I wanted to be on time to attend the ceremony I booked a flight for Sunday 4:30 pm and reached the airport accordingly. But, to my horror I was stopped by the security personnel at the entrance and on scrutinizing my ticket was denied permission to enter the airport.

I was informed that I’d missed my flight. For a minute I couldn’t understand how I could miss my flight as I h’d reached the airport 2 hours before the scheduled departure. When I pleaded with the security personnel explaining the urgency of my visit he allowed me to go to the airline counter situated adjacent to the entry gates.

The executive at the desk inspected my ticket. He told me that I h’d booked the morning 4:30 am flight instead of the evening one. I was completely shocked to realise my mistake and at the same time got worried how I would reach Jaipur.

I requested the airline staff to help me out. All of them were very cooperative and they informed me that only one seat was available in the last flight to Jaipur at 7 pm. I could either buy that ticket which was exorbitantly priced or wait for an hour before boarding.

In case no traveler bought  that ticket then the airline had a policy that as a goodwill gesture to its customers it would adjust the price of the ticket for the missed flight and on payment of additional nominal fee I would be allowed to board this last flight.

I was kept waiting for about 45 minutes which were like a nightmare for me. I kept praying to God to help me tide over this crisis. Eventually, the airline staff beckoned me and after completing the formalities I was handed over the boarding pass. I quickly made way back towards the security area and reached the boarding gate on time.

As I sat in the aircraft I sighed with relief, looking forward to attending and enjoying the wedding celebrations.

To become successful has become a struggle for all, and everyone is in the race to strive and succeed. However, regular efforts and consistent hard work can ease the process. Today I will be describing a person who faced several hardships and turned out to be an ultimate achiever. Kritika, my best friend since childhood, and I have completed our studies together at the same colleges. She didn’t have a very affluent family background; instead, her family was dealing with multiple problems, and this would distress her a lot. Kritika was determined to change her family’s poor state. She started working just after clearing her 12th and completed her further studies through distance learning. Initially, she started by giving home tuition; later, she joined a firm as a sales executive. Seeing her dedication and performance, she got promoted to sales manager. I guess that was the turning point in her life. Now that she has become Section Head of the company, she has a good salary package. Earlier, she was living in a rented house; recently, she bought a home for her family. She invited me to the inauguration ceremony. Kritika has proved that firm determination and perseverance have the ultimate power to change destiny. I feel extremely proud and happy for Kritika, as she has become a driving source of inspiration for many people around her.

Q3. Is there a contradiction between success and happiness?
Many believe that success and happiness mean the same thing; some even consider happiness to revolve around success. But according to my opinion, I believe success is tangled with certain tasks and goals, whereas happiness, on the other side, is free and doesn’t specifically need to be achieved; it is felt. One may feel happy by listening to his favourite songs, but success can’t be achieved in the same manner. Success requires regular hard- work and effort.

IELTS Cue Card 2024: Describe someone in the news you would like to meet.

IELTS Speaking Task Cue Card:

Someone in the news you would like to meet.

  • Who the person is?
  • What they do?
  • Why they are in the news?
  • And explain why you would like to meet them.

Sample Answer

There are innumerable mortals in the news, who often catch the news headlines of newspapers like politicians, singers, etc. Here I’d like to talk about Mukesh Ambani, a famous Indian billionaire business merchant also the chairman, managing director, and largest shareholder of Reliance Industries Limited. He, with his father, established India’s first private oil refinery at Gujarat that can produce about 33 million tonnes of oil per year.
He is currently the richest man of Asia and the 9th richest man in the world with a net worth of 21 billion dollars and lives in the world’s most big-budget private residence, whose value is approximately US$2 billion.
I saw him in the broadcast a few months back when I was watching the news, and there was information about him, that he donated 100 million dollars to Prime Minister’s emergency fund during the coronavirus pandemic. He shared that his money is of no value if he can’t help the citizens of his country. This quality affected me and had left a positive impact on me. Even though he has obtained a good reputation, he is very down to earth. Apart from this, he is a member of many non-state associations and does a lot of charity work.
I think he is not only intelligent and sympathetic, but also a successful businessman. Because of the fact that he manages his assets in such an effective manner. I have an eager ambition to meet this business tycoon in real life, so that I can learn some of his characteristics. I want to meet this big-hearted person and thank him for his kind step towards humanity. If I get a chance to meet him, I will not miss the boat.

Part 3 Follow-Up Questions

Q1. What types of people become famous in your country?
In my opinion, people, who work in the film industry and play sports, usually become famous in my country rather quickly. And politicians don’t lag very far behind them either. However, the difference is that famous people in the film industry and sports are “eminent” because most of the average citizens genuinely like them because of their creativity and performance while people “like” famous politicians out of “fear”.

Q2. What qualities does a person need to have to be famous?
I believe, that, becoming a famous and “successful” person is not a piece of cake. But, a person can become famous by winning against all the challenges and battles, thrown at him or her, because of carrying certain qualities in his or her life. And, some of these qualities are ‘passion, persistence (or patience), hard work, positive attitude, self-reliance, self-confidence, integrity, and rock-strong willpower’. Of course, a person also needs to have his or her fair share of “luck” as well to become famous. But, of all these qualities, I would say that “patience” may prove to be the most important and decisive factor in attaining “fame” as one may need to wait a long time to achieve it.

Q3. Describe how famous people influence the public.
Famous people, be they in sports, politics, cinema, or business can influence and inspire people with their talent, hard work, sincerity, and styles. Sometimes, the way they lead personal lives, and handle problems and relationships, can set examples for the general public. But, the problem is, sometimes, people tend to forget about their responsibilities as they may not be able to accept the mistakes of their favorite celebrity and they even try to justify the mistakes committed by them, which can be misleading for the rest of the general public.

travel Best IELTS Band 7 Coaching in dehradun

Sample Answer

Travelling is wonderful to experience and learn new things. I am a person who enjoys travelling and exploring new places. Travelling according to me is a great way to relax and unwind while making new experiences and memories.

Talking about a faraway place, it is an island named Bali in Indonesia. One of the most charming places in the world, it is a bouquet of beauty. It is famous for its volcanic mountains, beaches, sunset scenes, coral reefs, resort towns, temples and many more local landmarks. One can relax here in many ways and there is a lot to do and to explore.

I came to know about the island from a friend who had visited there last year. I looked it up on the internet and was instantly smitten by its natural beauty. The intriguing geographical characteristics of the island make for a host of wonderful places to visit, which is really interesting. My probable visit here would be in January next year and would be relatively easier than any other country like Canada or the United Kingdom. The visa process is very easy and the travel costs are affordable. The Indonesian currency is very cheap in comparison to the Indian rupee making the food and lodging costs highly affordable for the Indian visitors.

I have already visited and explored most of the Indian states and enjoyed the things they have to offer. I now wish to explore other lands to experience new cultures, meet new people, and to have a glimpse of what the other parts of the world look like. These are a few reasons as to why I wish to travel to Bali for a vacation.

Part 3 Follow-Up Questions

Q1: Why do people like visiting different places?
People, irrespective of where they live, get bored easily and want to experience new things once in a while. It’s because of this that tourism is one of the biggest industries of the world. People want to see how other people live, what their lifestyle is like, and what kinds of food they eat. With exposure to the internet, more and more people are aware of different places and cultures and thus would like to visit these places.

Q2: With whom do you go on vacation?
I prefer to go out with my friends. Once, I went with my family on a hiking trip, and it wasn’t a pleasurable experience. My parents weren’t able to climb quickly, and because of them, I had to keep on stopping from time to time. Moreover, our tastes don’t align, and we end up arguing where we should visit and what we should do. With friends, it’s relatively simple as we all have the same taste and requirements.

Q3: What all preparations do you do when visiting new places?
First of all, the kind of clothes I am going to wear while visiting other places depends on the weather conditions of that place. If it’s warm, then, of course, I would pack light. However, if it’s going to be cold, I would have to carry double the luggage with all the coats, jackets, etc. I also take into account the local customs of the place and try to wear the clothes that are not too different from the local attire. Locals always appreciate when we take the effort to appreciate their culture and their customs.
