Describe a TV presenter.
You should say:

  • who is she or he?
  • what programme does she or he present?
  • how does she or he present the program?

and explain why you like / dislike him/ her.

Sample Answer 1

Today, I’d like to talk about a renowned TV presenter. He is our country’s favourite TV show presenter, Kapil Sharma. His series, Comedy Nights With Kapil, is one of the most famous and funny television programmes. Even people from foreign countries watch this show and come to experience Kapil live.

Kapil Sharma has changed the way comedy shows are hosted in India. Some people often say that he is the country’s finest comedian and one of the best presenters our industry has ever seen. There are many Bollywood stars who wait to come onto his show, and every movie that is about to get released is surely promoted on his show.

One thing that I love about him is that he knows how to make people laugh and the witty answers that he gives – they are truly amazing. At times, there are people in the audience who try to be oversmart with him or maybe sometimes rude with the guest stars. Without losing his temper, Kapil Sharma cleverly deals with them and makes everyone laugh.

Kapil Sharma shows have two parts. In the first part, funny scenes are enacted in a family setting using dialogues, dance and music. In the second part, celebrities come to the show to talk about their life, achievements, challenges and their talent. Kapil and his team create a funny environment in which everyone gets engrossed.

I think one reason why everyone loves him and his show is because, in some way or the other, it strikes a chord. We can see some irritating and lovely characters in his show that we can relate to. And then, the dialogues are so amazing that people tend to repeat them in their daily conversations, making it a great show.

Sample Answer 2

I love watching TV shows hosted by presenters. Today, I’m going to talk about my favourite TV presenter. His name is Rannvijay. He hosts the most famous youth show called ‘Roadies’. Apart from being its presenter, he also takes part in selecting candidates for the show. He is one of the best TV presenters that our television industry has seen in almost a decade.

His presentation style is very interactive and people-centric. The way he connects with the audience in the show is amazing. Other things that I really like about him are his speaking style and fairness. His voice is commendable, and when the participants are wrong, he finds it not at all difficult to tell them that they are wrong. At times, when any candidate experiences injustice, he is the first one to come forward. So, it is not just about reading the given script but about managing the entire show, making sure that the candidate’s true colours come out.

In one of the shows, Rannvijay was also the participant, and he played his part really well. There were times when he lost and other times when he won. But the most important point was his never-dying spirit. And this is the spirit that he tries to bring to the contestants and, in some way, to the whole nation. I really admire his talent.

IELTS CUE CARD – Describe a crowded place you have visited

IELTS CUE CARD – Describe a crowded place you have visited

You should say:

  • Where is it?
  • When you went there?
  • With whom you went there?
  • Explain how you felt about being there?

SAMPLE ANSWER

India is densely populated, so if we are stepping out of our homes we hardly find a place which is not crowded. I normally avoid visiting overcrowded places.

Recently a Shopping Complex was inaugurated in my hometown. It is situated on the outskirts. A lot of advertisements appeared in the local newspaper to promote it. One weekend I decided to visit the Shopping Complex with my friend. It was Sunday and we planned to go there in the afternoon. We reached the Complex at around 3 p.m. I was in the mood of shopping clothes so we headed towards a clothes store inside the Complex. Both of us selected few garments and went towards the trial room to try the outfits.

Surprisingly, there was a long queue outside the trial room. I found it really funny.  My friend and I started giggling about it while waiting for our turn. After waiting for about 15 minutes we were able to try our clothes. Both of us selected a dress each and went towards the billing counter to make payment. On finding a queue there I started laughing again and nudged my friend while waiting for our turn.

As soon as we paid our bills we rushed towards the Food Court as we were quite hungry. It was 5 pm already and the Food Court too was packed with people. With great difficulty we managed to buy burgers and fries for ourselves. While we were eating, the crowd kept on increasing.

We quickly finished our meal as I started feeling suffocated. I rushed out of the Complex gasping for fresh air. That day, I decided I won’t visit this Complex on a Sunday ever again.

IELTS CUE CARD – Talk about a time you received good news

IELTS CUE CARD: Talk about a time you received good news.

You should say:

  • When it happened?
  • How you got the news?
  • What the news was about?
  • and explain why the news was special?

SAMPLE ANSWER

Good and bad news are a part and parcel of everyone’s life. Today, I’d like to talk about a time when I received good news.

I live in London. It’s been two years since I came here to pursue my higher education. My studies are quite demanding. Because of a busy schedule, I rarely get time to talk to my family, and video calls are only possible on weekends. Last week, I video-called my mother in India, and I suddenly saw her holding a newborn baby in her arms. It was so cute – just a bundle of joy wrapped in my mum’s arms.

I asked my mother who the baby was, and she exclaimed with joy that it was the baby of my close aunt who had no children. It was indeed a surprise for me because I have been far away from my family; therefore, I wasn’t aware of it. My mother told me that the birth of this baby was a miracle given the health complexities my aunt had. I thanked God for fulfilling my aunt’s wish and blessing her with a healthy baby she could call her own.

Emotions were running high in my head. It reminded me of the time when she used to visit us during summer holidays, and she would talk to my mum about her feelings of loneliness and the social stigma of being childless. I was very happy for her. I also felt sad because I could not hold this cute little baby in my arms and give either of them a warm hug. Seeing a lot of other relatives in the video call calmed me down. They were all happy, cheering, having a great time, and enjoying the baby. It was truly good news for everyone.

IELTS Cue Card – Talk about learning English language

In Part 2 of the IELTS Speaking Test, a topic is given to the candidate. It is commonly called a ‘cue card’. You are given a minute to make your notes about the given topic and plan what you are going to say. After the preparation time, you are expected to speak fluently on the given topic.

So, let’s practise a cue card.

Talk about learning English language

  • How long have you been learning English language?
  • Where did you learn?
  • What is the easiest or most difficult part of English?
  • Is English important in your profession?

Here is latest cue card question November 2016. Describe a mistake you made. Sample answer is on Level IELTS Band9. Best BAND7 IELTS Dehradun IELTS online simulator IELTS BAND 7 Coaching Classes

SAMPLE ANSWER

Throughout my schooling, I studied in an English-medium school. So, English was the second language I learnt at a young age. Practically, I can say that I have been familiar with English for now 18 years. During the primary years, I did not take English very seriously, and grammar rules never bothered me. It was in class VIII that I understood the importance of learning grammar and vocabulary. Since then, I have been an avid reader and have made conscious attempts to improve my English language proficiency.

For me, the most difficult part of English was remembering the spellings of new words and using them in the right context. However, since I loved English, I overcame this problem by practising and writing regularly.

Now, I am a writer, and I write travel blogs in English. So, English is a crucial part of my profession. For me, it is very important that my writing is clear, engaging and accurate. I’d like to conclude by saying that language acquisition is a gradual process which requires patience and continuous efforts.
