Technology and its reach in human life have significantly increased over the past few years. This has had a lot of implications, including a dramatic increase in the number of children playing computer games. This essay will examine various impacts of this change and discuss possibilities to avoid any negative effects.

Talking about the positive aspects, playing computer games has numerous benefits. These can range from helping children develop cognitive skills to increase their logical reasoning. Games have developed into a whole industry. These have allowed children to test their abstract and logical thinking skills. Many of these games require children to follow various commands and try to solve complex problems with the use of logic. Such games are surely advantageous for a child’s mental progress.

On the other hand, people are raising concerns over the prolific use of violence and sanguinary elements that these games contain. These may be highly addictive, in the sense that they reward the players for being more violent, thereby setting a wrong example. Apart from being addictive, they contribute to arresting a child’s social development and lead to the inculcation of aggressive feelings of anger and hate in their thoughts and habits.

However, there are many steps that can be taken to minimize negative impacts. Firstly, video games are rated for different ages and parents can choose them for the children in order to avoid unsuitable content. Secondly, parents can limit the duration of playing games for the children to keep addiction at bay. Finally, parents should take an active interest in the children’s activities and encourage them to play outdoor games.

To sum it up, video games have a lot of advantages along with an array of disadvantages. Parents should supervise their children and take precautions to avoid any negative effects these might have on children.

Sample Answer

The bar graph shows the salaries of various professions when they started, compared with their salaries after three years. The adjoining table also contains data for the average working hours for each profession per week.

It can be deciphered that the salaries after three years have increased for each profession. However, the underground train driver got the maximum increment of 2500 Pounds, and the policeman got the least increment of 600 Pounds. The nurse got the least salary amounting to only approximate 15,700 Pounds, whereas the underground train driver got just under 50,000 Pounds which was the highest amount of salary in comparison. On the other hand, the teacher and the policeman get slightly more than 23,000 Pounds and 33,000 Pounds respectively.

Comparing this data to the working hours per week, it is found that the underground train driver is being paid the most amount of money per hour and nurse being paid the least. In contrast, the teacher and firefighter have 55 working hours which are the highest. Moreover, the nurse and the underground train driver have 38 and 36 working hours respectively, which are the lowest.

To sum up, even after three years and a substantial raise of salary for each profession, the trend does not change and the tube driver was still topping the chart and the nurse on the last position.

IELTS Writing Task 2 Essay: Researching and treating diseases is too costly so it would be better to invest in preventive measures.

Prevention is better than cure. Researching and treating diseases is too costly so it would be better to invest in preventive measures.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
SAMPLE ANSWER

Prevention and cure are two different concepts that are intertwined. Prevention from diseases is considered better than cure because it saves us from the problems of curing through medicines. Today the cost of research and treatment of many diseases is skyrocketing. Hence, in my opinion, prevention is always better than cure. The concept of cure should always be given less importance than prevention, as the latter is cheaper, better, and more convenient to implement.

This idea teaches us to be careful at all times. This should be followed in order to keep any problems at bay and maintain a healthy body at all times. Research and treatments for ailments might be advancing at a good pace, but they have their own limitations. Without prevention, these ailments can grow bigger and exponentially so. There may come a point where even the best cure has a possibility of failing.

Furthermore, being healthy is any day better than being sick, as it takes a toll on one’s body. Cures may accelerate repair and growth of the body and its functions, but such damages are never fully recoverable. Ailments of any kind may be able to disrupt our lives in different aspects. People now understand cure as a key to a healthy life with room for negligence and rash lifestyle. Prevention requires efforts, and people in today’s world have become lethargic in this context. However, we need to focus more and engage resources on the idea of prevention rather than utilizing multifold resources on a cure.

Writing task 2 Essay: Some people believe teenagers should focus on all subjects equally, while others think that they should concentrate only those subjects that they find interesting.

Writing task 2

Some people believe teenagers should focus on all subjects equally, whereas other people think that they should concentrate only those subjects that they find interesting. Discuss both the views and provide your opinion.

Sample answer

Our education system has evolved in the past few years. Teenagers go to schools to gain knowledge on a variety of subjects. This idea is controversial and people opine differently. Some people say that students should have the freedom to study the subjects of their choice, whereas others say that equal attention to all the subjects is beneficial. In my opinion, teenagers should learn all the subjects and gain knowledge about each and every discipline in their curriculum.

On one hand, high school curriculum is tailored to teach important subjects such as mathematics, science, English, history, and geography. These act as a foundation for future career applications. Not only are they designed to provide knowledge, but also allow the students to select the subjects that they might wish to take up for higher studies and career opportunities. Moreover, teenagers are not capable enough to make the best decision pertaining to one particular subject that they would want to study in the foreseeable future.

On the other hand, if a student wishes to be selective, it might be beneficial as well. This would let him ensure undivided focus on his choice of subjects and help him build a sound foundation during the formative years. This would provide students with more time and resources to spend on comparatively lesser and more interesting subjects, leading to better results.

According to me, the option of studying all the subjects enables the students to keep their options open and possibly widen their range of interests. To conclude, I would say that it is best for them to study all the subjects and figure out a particular stream or subject at a later stage in life, preferably during higher studies.
