Sample Answer

With 8 Billion people living on our planet Earth, there isn’t much that’s left untouched by all of the humans. We need to exploit the earth’s resources in order to fulfill our daily basic needs. This is one of the main reasons as to why the pollution has grown so much throughout the years. I vividly remember that I went to Delhi, the capital of our nation, a few years ago with my family to meet some of our relatives who live there. As soon as we stepped into that city, we could feel the suffocation in the environment. There were so many people everywhere. The number of vehicles on the road was also enormous. We were stuck in the traffic jam for about 3 hours. To be exact about it, we entered Delhi at 4 pm but couldn’t reach our destination until 7:00 pm. The pollution caused by the rising population was quite evident in this metropolitan city. We couldn’t even breathe properly. Due to the pollution, we were feeling more hot and sweaty. After this trip me along with my family decided to not visit Delhi frequently as it was not our cup of tea. The government needs to consider the pollution there and take preventive measures to secure it from further exploitation.

Speaking -Part 3 (Follow up questions)
Here are some examples of follow up questions that examiner may ask during your speaking (part 3) related to cue card ‘Describe a place you visited where the air was polluted’.

Q1. Is there more pollution now than in the past?

Definitely, it is an undeniable fact that the pollution has grown so much ever since humans have advanced in all the aspects of life. There is a huge difference between the older time period and now. Nothing is as fresh and pollution free as it used to be in the older days. Even the population has increased very rapidly.

Q2. In what wats can air pollution be reduced effectively?

According to me there are plenty of ways to reduce the pollution. Firstly, people should avoid using private vehicles and switch to public ones.
People can start planting as much as possible and the factories or power plants must install air and water purifiers.

Sample Answer

I have learned a lot of practical skills such as cooking, driving, working with wood, and working on computer amongst others. I was able to learn them from different places such as my school, my home, workshops and vocational classes. The most illustrious one as per me is graphic designing. I have always had a passion for drawing and art in my childhood. My father bought me a computer when I was in eighth grade, and I started using computer applications to design and draw things on the computer.

It started with painting on Microsoft Paint and later on, I learned other applications and designing possibilities with even more advanced software such as AUTOCAD and Photoshop. As time passed, I grabbed every opportunity to learn about designing and attended diploma courses to become adept at designing. After graduating from high school, I got many chances to work upon cards, posters, banners, and logos for the people I personally knew, and I earned my expenses through these.

I have gained and mastered the skill by practicing a lot. I have read different books on designing and its concepts and spent hours designing classes to hone my abilities. I took every work or freelancing opportunity that I could get and started earning money by putting this skill to good use.

Even though I have a long way to go, I am glad to have this skill, as I plan to build my career in the designing industry where this skill is a required basic necessity. This way, I can use my skill to earn a livelihood.

Describe-a-thing-that-has-become-a-matter-of-status-nowadays IELTSBAND7

SAMPLE ANSWER-

Throughout time, the possession of certain items has been linked to achieve a higher status or such as having a car. The ownership of expensive car brands indicates the financial superiority and marks an image in the mind of the people in the society. Therefore, in this materialistic world, people of different cultural and financial background want to have a four-wheeler.

In some countries, the majority of people cannot afford a car but with the emergence of options like car loans and the availability of second hand cars, everyone enjoys this privilege. Millennial today believe in giving a ‘good impression’ to others because of which they urge their elders to invest in fancy and latest models. Possessing a car has its own convenience, comfort which also comes with some liabilities like maintenance and environmental concerns.

Of course, my parents do own a car but I still prefer taking public transport in order to avoid the traffic on the congested roads of my country. Not everyone thinks the same way.

All in all, the utility of a car is replaced by the image and status symbol that it offers. With the booming economy and stagnant car prices, more and more people are getting influenced to purchase a car in the future. However, people consider ownership of expensive four-vehicle equivalent to a luxury. In addition, in the period of conscious environmentalism and hefty fuel prices, people must be more concerned about the pollution it causes rather than their own image and status.

IELTS Cue Card # Rule in School

IELTS Speaking Task Cue Card Sample Questions

Describe a rule that you did not like in your school.
You should say :

  • what was it?
  • how did others think about this rule?
  • have you ever violated this rule?

explain why you did not like this rule?

SAMPLE ANSWER

School days have been the best days of my life and no matter what I believe we all have memories attached to them. They do bring nostalgic moments in us. I studied in a convent school and there were many rules but the one that I did not like was if someone had not the proper dress, they would be sent out of the assembly and delayed for the first lecture. Our school had prefects and their job was to make sure that we all were in our proper dresses. Even a tint of error and we would be thrown out. Being an average person, I never had those perfect shoes or dress and so most of the times I would be out.

I remember once it became so frequent that people accepted it as my nature. The reason I did not like this rule was that, at some point in my life, I had an inferiority complex because of this. Children would make fun of me because of this and we would fight. Because of missing the first lecture, I did miss out on some very important things that were taught and it did impact my studies.

Most of the people in my school had no issues with this rule. Probably, because they always did wore the right dresses and shoes. But, there were few like me, who used to be out because of our neatness. I remember making friends all the way during this time. We would laugh and giggle sometimes. But initially, it was quite rough for all of us and I believe there could have been a better way of teaching us the importance of maintaining a dress code.
