India is located in such a manner as to cross the tropic of cancer midway. This means that it is a tropical country with highly unusual weather patterns.

During the Autumn months, we experience Monsoon season, wherein it tends to rain for months on end depending on where you live in the country. Mangoes are abundant in that season and agriculture, in general, is hugely dependent on sufficient rainfall. However, further down south tornadoes and flooding are a real concern every year.

During the summer seasons, it is ludicrously hot and humid, or hot and dry, again depending on where you reside. Due to this, heatstrokes are common and it is advised to stay indoors and remain hydrated during the peak hours of the day. I myself do not like to nap in the middle of the day, but a majority of the public does.

The spring months are far more forgiving in terms of weather fluctuations, the heat is manageable and it is the best time of year in my opinion, as everything is in bloom. It is also the best time to go travelling, yet this year I have not been able to go out much in light of the global pandemic.

Lastly, the cold season. We have dry winters in India, not much rain but a lot of fluctuating temperatures, the middle of the days are again very hot due to the cloudless skies, the nights reach freezing temperatures, quite the contrasting combination. Snow is practically unheard of unless you live in the Himalayas.

So overall, India is home to some fascinating climate phenomenons, which makes it especially hard to accurately predict the weather before time, the topography and wind patterns with atmospheric pressures have a huge role to play in the cycle of the elements here.

IELTS CUE CARD – Talk about a person who taught you something important

IELTS CUE CARD – Talk about a person who taught you something important

Talk about someone who taught you something. You should say

  • Who this person was?
  • What did they teach you?
  • When was this?
  • And describe what you learned.
Sample Answer One

Learning is a never-ending process. The first things we learn are to think, to talk, to walk, basic behavioural quirks that we adopt from our family and environment. Later on, in life, we choose to learn higher-level skills such as reading, writing, mathematical reasoning and skills classified as extra-curricular. Examples of those skills might be learning to play an instrument, handicrafts, learning to ride a bike, art, and video gaming etc.

Now I will proceed to describe how a dear friend helped me discover the intricacies of braiding complex patterned friendship bracelets. This was back in the summers of primary school, my friend and I were next-door neighbours, and so quite naturally we used to spend all our time at each other’s houses. As 9-year-old girls are meant to do, our favourite pastime was drawing and playing on the swings.

It was, however, one fateful day when my friend was messing around with some string, tying them in seemingly pointless and frankly rather obscure knots. I did not understand the point of her actions but sat down to watch her anyway. She kept tying knot after knot after knot, soon enough I discovered rationality to her pattern. And why, before my very eyes she produced a magnificent friendship bracelet!

Made with a mosaic of diamonds I could not have told you how she achieved such a feat despite being present the entire duration of its creation.

A day after that I demanded she teaches me. She was reluctant but agreed eventually, though she warned me that I would not be reaching her level of expertise for quite some time. And how right she was! It was a tedious process, learning the different types of knots, the ways to tie them, how the direction determines the shape, all with a dual sting thread. Eventually, I learned to handle more threads, become more experimental with the intricacies. And Before we knew it, the summer had ended.  This time we went to school with matching bracelets, for my final task had been to make her one to repay her for her patience, goodwill and friendship.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Life is all about learning. Whether it’s a new skill or some life lessons to live a more fulfilling life. All play a key role in our lives. Today, I’d like to talk about how I learnt to drive.

I’d always wanted to learn how to drive but my father insisted that I should finish my schooling first. So a week after my exams we made a plan for learning driving. We decided to get up early in the morning and set out to a huge ground located in the outskirts of the town. It was safe to practice there in the morning.

It was fun to learn driving. I felt on top of the world when every morning I sat on the driving seat next to my father. He never scolded me and always encouraged me with a positive attitude. He is the most patient person I’ve ever come across and even when I bumped into a tree he continued to motivate me and turned my fears into cheers!

At the end of a month’s training, I slowly started driving on the road. Eventually I became an expert and was able to drive in heavy traffic as well.

This training not only made my life easier and independent, but also gave me the opportunity to spend quality time with my father.

IELTS Cue Card 2020 Questions # Describe a good news that you recently heard

A good news is something we all pray for. Something that always brings happiness into our lives. Good news could be on ourselves or something that we hear about others. This time we are looking at a cue card that was asked recently in the IELTS speaking test.

Describe a good news that you recently heard. You should say:

  • what was the good news
  • how did you received the news?
  • who was the news about?

also, explain your reaction on hearing the news.

SAMPLE ANSWER

We are living in times when it has become so hard for people to share the good news. Even when good things happen, people often start looking for even better things. But, this one time, I remember, I got a call from a very old friend of mine. We had not talked with each other in a while and initially, getting a call from her was in itself really good news for me.

But, as she went on, she told me that she had won the Toastmasters Speech Contest at National level and is all set to win it Internationally. The mere fact that my friend had achieved her biggest fear and has done something worth remembering for, made both of us cry the tears of joy. Toastmasters is an International Organization where people join in to learn the art of speaking.

As I know my friend, she had the stage fright for a very long time. Being part of the group and then winning a competition of speaking at the national level, brought not only happiness but also the feeling of pride in me. She told me the competition was to be held in Delhi and I was then living there. So, we met and celebrated together with her victory.

IELTS Cue Card Sample Answer # Building That Impressed You

There are so many  construction sites around the world, so many that we see everyday. It could be an office or a house or may be something with historical importance. No matter what, there are certain buildings which make us go wow. The ones which we want to live in or work for or may be visit again and again. Let us today have a look at a cue card related to a building that impressed you.

Describe a building or construction that you have seen and impressed you.
You should say:
– where it was
– what it looks like
– when did you saw it.

There are lot of buildings that I have visited but the one architecture that has taken me by storm is the Bada Imambara in Lucknow.  Bhool Bhulaiya is a labyrinth of hundreds of narrow stairway passages, some of which have dead-ends, some end at precipitous drops while others lead to entrance or exit points. We went to the place with a guide and even with him there were times when we felt lost.

It was enormous and while taking a stroll down it I realized if while walking on it, it is so difficult to remember where we came from and where we need to go, how would have the people created the architecture. The Bada ImamBara is said to be the world’s largest arched room without any pillars.

I remember my relatives came to our house, while we were living in Lucknow, during I suppose 2002. I was very young that time and going there was amazing. As a child, there were certain things that fascinated me, others I did not understand but whatever it be, it was great to be lost with my family.

Building That Impressed You

Our country has some of the best architectural buildings and I have had the chance of visiting lot of them. But, the one building that I fell in love with was Taj Mahal. Taj Mahal is regarded as the sign of love and there is so much of great architecture in it that anyone can fall in love with it.

I remember having visited the Taj Mahal when I was around 13 years old and it was a truly amazing experience. As kids, we, as in me and my brother were very inquisitive about the place and ended up asking lot of questions to the guide. So, he told us about why it was made and what is the story behind it. But, when you look at Taj Mahal, I believe it was made with so much of true intentions and true love that it gives you peace and makes you calm down.

Taj Mahal was made with white marble inlaid with semi-precious stones. It has got a central dome along with four smaller domes; four slender towers, or minarets, stood at the corners. There are verses from the Quran were inscribed in calligraphy on the arched entrances to the mausoleum, in addition to numerous other sections of the complex. In the lower floor are the domes of Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan.

It is for the love of Mumtaz that Shah Jahan made the Taj Mahal. Although, with the environment issues coming up, there are lot of problems that Taj Mahal has faced, but it still manages to bring in lot of tourists from all around the world.
