  • Would you recommend it to others? Why?
Sample Answer

I will not call myself a bibliophile, but I also won’t deny that I like to read. Due to my busy schedule, I don’t get much free time for myself, but I still manage to finish a book in a month. Today I will be describing one of the books that I read that has become my favourite. The book was given to me by my best friend on my 20th birthday. To be honest, I started reading it a month ago. I had been procrastinating it until my friend asked me about its review. I felt extremely awkward, so I decided to at least start. I had no information regarding its content or about the author as soon as I finished the first page. I couldn’t resist finishing the book. To my surprise, I finished it within a span of 15 days. It was my first book that I completed so quickly. The book is The Power of a Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy, who is an Irish-based author famous for his excellent self-help books. The book revolves around the undiscovered and highly underestimated power of our subconscious mind. The books talk about techniques to harness the power of your subconscious mind for personal growth and success. It helped me a lot to overcome all my insecurities due to my lower thinking level. I will highly recommend this book to everyone who is finding it difficult to face their mental changes.

Routine helps every individual to keep themselves organized and active all day long. What is more, a daily schedule aids in managing time effectively and being productive. I’m going to talk about a routine that I am very particular of. I start my day with a morning walk, followed by hitting the gym for around an hour and lastly meeting my friends.

There is a huge open garden in close vicinity of my house where I usually prefer to go for a morning walk, as it is in the midst, surrounded by tress all over and vibrant flowers that add to the aesthetic beauty of the place. Another reason is newly constructed walking tracks.

Besides this, on weekends I usually play games with my friends such as cricket and football and I do my exercise myself. However, once in a blue moon, one of my best friends who is also my neighbor accompanies me.

Furthermore, as I am extremely conscious about my health, I believe in maintaining a perfect balance in mental well-being as well as physical health. So, along with exercise, I tend to eat a balanced diet and socialize with my friends.

In our warehouse, I came across an old ceramic pot. The scrapper comes every last Sunday of the month, and my father was selling some scraps to him. I was assisting my dad in clearing out the unwanted items from our storage area. From there, we were removing a number of damaged and useless objects. As I was clearing, I noticed a pot that was in horrible state resting amid the garbage.

I took it to my father after picking it up. He informed me that his grandfather purchased it, to store pickles, but it is now useless. I asked to keep it with me, and he granted my request. I had to clean it a lot because it was in the worst possible state. I succeeded after giving it succeeded after giving it multiple soap and water washes. The pot was a stunning specimen of old art, with its dark tone and finely painted designs.

My father looked at it for a long time and grinned when I showed it to him. He claimed it brought back memories of his granddad. In my room, I utilized it as a flower planter. The family’s collective gasp at the exquisite conversion of a shred into a gorgeous pot was shared by all. It’s my favourite pot out of all of them, and I still have it in my room. It’s really family oriented, thus I will always keep it in my room.

Talk about a product from your hometown.

  • You should say:
  • What it is
  • How it is made
  • What it is used for
  • And explain its significance in your hometown

IELTS CUE CARD Talk about a product from your hometown

Sample Answer

Today I will talk about a product from my hometown. I come from a small village in Ghana, my native lands have a rich history in handicrafts production and development. But for now I shall focus on the most versatile of them all; the basket.

Our handmade baskets were traditionally made from fibrous materials such as plant roots, backwoods, vines, banana leaves, cane and papyrus. These were naturally decomposable if rather flimsy. A good basket made in the traditionally manner could last two to five years. Now however, baskets are commonly made of plastic, wire, and in some cases, recycled materials. These have a far longer lifespan and not all are eco-friendly.

When I refer to a “basket” I imply a woven material crafted into all manner of shapes for all manner of different uses. Most young girls are taught from a young age how to braid these materials into cases, trunks, jar like containers, jewellery boxes, carry bags, winnows; anything with in the realm of possibility.

That’s why you can never find two identical genuine handmade baskets. There will always be something different among them, be it the structure, pattern, shape, lid, row count or material, anything can vary.

The art of crafting baskets is a cherished tradition. With the tourism industry booming, handmade baskets are a very good income for a rural household. This also gives some power back to the females of the village, in a male-dominated society, they still have a voice, because it is their craft keeping the family afloat. During farming season, the grains are winnowed and sifted.

The grains, herbs and spices are stored in cases and jars. They are transported in carry bags to the market. There is hardly a task in my village one can think of that does not pay homage to the art of weaving.

In this way, the basket is more than just a product for our village, it is survival, it is our voice, and it is our craft. (333 Words)
