IELTS Cue Card – DESCRIBE A TIME WHEN YOU FACED A CHALLENGE.

Describe a time when you faced a challenge.

You should say:

  • When was it?
  • How did you overcome that hardship?
  • What did you learn from it?
  • How did you feel after that?

Sample Answer
People often face challenges in their lives. Some of them are handled well on the other hand, some issues are hard to swallow. We often tend to give up in such situations. I was in trouble when me and friends went for a trek to a place near Mussurie. It is called Nag-Tibba, and it is famous for the mesmerizing view of the upper Himalayas you get from there. We were a group of youngsters in our early 20s. We started our trek with fervor and were enjoying our hike.
The view of the sunset was enticing, but we realized we were in trouble as we were far away from our destination and it was about to get dark. This was just the tip of the iceberg, as we also forgot to carry a torch with us. Moving around in darkness was risky, and the only option we had was to camp for the night at the same spot.
We built a fire, fixed our camps, and decided that everyone would rotateally wake up for a few hours to avoid any possible danger from wild animals. Finally, the night was over, and we resumed our expedition.
There was a lot to learn from this difficulty we encountered. First, we should always be well prepared while doing something that is not part of our daily routine and never lose our vision in excitement.
I felt very lucky that nothing unfortunate happened with us, and I revamped my belief in my decision-making.

Part 3 Follow-Up Questions

Q.1 Do people like to face challenges?

I think most people avoid stressful situations. Humans love being in their comfort zone and try to stay away from a tight-spot.
Q.2 How do you support others who are facing challenges?
When people from my family and friends are in a sticky situation, the first thing I do is to hear them out properly. If it’s something in my area of expertise , I advise them. If it’s something I am unfamiliar with, I seek advice from people who are related to that area.
Q.3 What are some challenges that people in your hometown face?
My hometown is the capital of our state. The primary issue people face here is the traffic problem during rush hours. Secondly, the number of street dogs has increased significantly over the past few years, which has created safety issues. Poorly managed waste systems contribute to the clogging of drains, and strayed animals often consume polythene along with food they find in the garbage.

new-shop Best IELTS Band 7 Coaching in dehradun

Sample Answer

I live in the main area of my city which is also the center of various shopping malls. On top of it, new shops keep opening every now and then. Sometimes I visit them to see what they have to offer or may be buy anything of need. Recently a famous brand, Lenskart opened up its chain in our city.

The store deals with eye wears and is opened in the most prominent shopping mall of our city, the Amanora Mall. It offers lenses, sunglasses, spectacles, glasses and frames to suit everyone’s requirements. The store is very spacious with the entrance wall made of all glass and is flush with the glass door and the remaining walls have intricate displays lined with different frames and accessories in an orderly manner. The frames and glasses are displayed by brands, sizes, and designs. The center of the showroom contains another centerpiece lined with more glasses and frames on display. Lying next to it are a few chairs for elderly people who might visit. Behind the billing counter on the far side, they have an elaborate eye testing machinery setup. The staff is trained and conduct free eye tests for everyone with dexterity.

I went to visit the store two days ago, with my sister. She wanted a new pair of glasses, so we went, browsed, and she chose a pair of stylish rimless glasses. While she was browsing, the store offered me a free eye check-up, and I went in to get it done. The staff is cordial and jolly, and we spoke to them while my sister got the billing done. If in future I need any eye wear, I will definitely visit there again.

street-market Best IELTS Band 7 Coaching in Dehradun

SAMPLE ANSWER

Street markets are a highly popular phenomenon in a lot of cities around the world. They not only provide a variety of products in different categories but also support the local economy as well. Street markets around the world are set up daily, weekly or monthly!  These markets are standalone events in themselves, and going to shop in them can be a quite wonderful and satisfying experience.

Actually, our locality is one of the main and busiest areas in the city and has one such market too. This market is set up each day, near the main crossroads nearby my place. It is indeed quite large and contains more than a hundred makeshift shops. This market is quite an old one and is being set up every day since the last ten years. The local government setup has helped the people here a lot and has created separate spaces for the shopkeepers. I also go there to purchase a few things every now and then. The first time I went there, I had to buy a few things for my home such as vegetables, fruits, and other routine items.

As soon as I went inside the market area, I found that it was very crowded. People were walking in all directions, hurrying to buy things. With a little difficulty, I found and purchased everything that I needed to buy and then sat down on a bench to relax. It was a hot summer day hence I decided to relax along with a glass of sweet lemonade and some locally made snacks. All the vendors and shopkeepers there are very nice and provide goods at reasonable prices. Although very busy, the market has a very nice atmosphere, and I find it a good experience to go there and buy things.

IELTS Cue Card – Describe an advertisement that you don’t like.

Describe an advertisement that you don’t like.

You should say:

  • When did you see it ?
  • What is it about ?
  • Where you saw it/ how you came to know about it ?
  • Why you didn’t like it ?

Sample Answer
Well, I generally don’t like to watch many advertisements because I believe they are simply a waste of time & in turn lure people to buy unnecessary items. Although some ads are quite informative and genuine, but at the same time most of them just provide fake scenarios. Today, I would like to talk about one such advertisement which I really dislike whenever it is on air. It is an advertisement about Pan masala. It is endorsed by the top most celebrities of our country. They present that deadly tobacco packets in such a way that it lures the youngsters of the nation to try it. The people of our country are very much into imitating the doings of some famous celebrities, and when these deadly cancer causing products are showcased by them, it is hard for people to resist. The pan masala is said to be saffron-infused and designed under the theme of “Daane-Daane Mein Kesar Ka Dam”. Although the precautions clearly state that it contains tobacco and it may cause cancer. I believe these big shots should not promote such deadly products which affects the health of the people. It contains portions of tobacco, hence it is highly recommended to place it within reach of children. After having several warnings the product is still endorsed as a fit to consume item. I feel disheartening because such a dangerous product is endorsed by the idols of our country and this fascinated the teenagers, which in turn affect their overall health. Nowadays, this ad can be seen on most of the social networking sites like YouTube and Instagram. I wish there was a method that allowed us to ban several ads if they use false means to sell the product.

We see ads all around us – on television, roadsides, newspapers, social networking sites, on phones through sms and as flyers.

Sometimes, supermarkets and fast food outlets give money to schools and open there outlets in schools. This is a way of advertising their products.
