Speaking -Part 2 (Cue Card)

Describe a historic place you know

  • What kind of place it is?
  • What does it look like?
  • Where it is?
  • And explain how the place is related to history
Sample Answer

Historic structures serve as a reminder of our rich history and former splendour. Since I was little, I have always been fascinated by history. I used to read a lot and study the history of ancient times. I never pass up the opportunity to tour historical sites. It’s an intriguing encounter. I paid my aunt, who resides in Delhi, a visit last year. I had the chance to explore the Red Fort, one of India’s most popular tourist destinations, there. It is among the world’s seven wonders. It’s a massive red-painted palace. It was our first visit there. The enormous gate that welcomed us was a stunning work of art. Many notable historical buildings remain, including Hira Mahal, Mumtaz Mahal, Rang Mahal, Meena Bazaar, and many more, despite the fact that the majority of buildings are either shattered or severely damaged. With a long history, Meena Bazaar is a well regarded destination for retrophiliac and antiquarian enthusiasts. In the past, it was mostly exclusive to women—royal ladies and noblemen’s wives, to start. It used to happen exclusively on designated days of the week or at significant occasions. Nowadays, Meena Bazar is held every day from the afternoon till the evening, which has somewhat modified the situation. In addition to the massive garden’s doubled attractiveness due to its abundance of seasonal flowers and plants, I also saw a few peacocks. Overall, the Red Fort is a symbol of great Mughal architecture and prowess in the past.

Sample Answer

Well, it is good to give advice to our loved ones when they are in trouble or confused. Many times I have given advice to my relatives, but now I would like to share an incident when I gave advice to my niece. When he had completed his primary education, he had to choose his major. He was confused about whether to choose business studies or the science stream. I shared all the opportunities and obstacles. Moreover, I suggested that he look for his interests before choosing subjects. I gave that advice to him because there was no one in his family to huide him about his vocation. CUE CARD – Describe a time when you had a disagreement with someone

Speaking -Part 2 (Cue Card)

Describe a time when you had a disagreement with someone

  • Who was the person
  • Why did you have the disagreement
  • Was the issue resolved?
Sample Answer

Well, everyone has a different opinion, which can cause disagreements. Almost everyone
has had a disagreement once in their life. I vividly remember that after completing 12th
grade, I decided to go abroad for further education because of the lack of good infrastructure in my country and the enormous opportunities available in foreign countries. But my friend suggested that I not go out but rather stay and study in India. He also shared several demerits of studying in a foreign country, for instance, brain drain, expense, cultural difference, and many more. Gradually, it became a screaming match. A wise man jumped into our conversation. After hearing both sides, he suggested that the benefits of studying abroad outweigh its drawbacks. We can take various measures to overcome drawbacks, such as the fact that after completing our education, we can come back to our native country and use our education and skills for the betterment of the country. Later on, the dispute was settled. To conclude, there is nothing wrong with disagreements, but we should try to solve them peacefully.

Speaking -Part 3 (Follow up questions)

People tend to disagree when they don’t understand each other so first, seek to
understand and appreciate. Secondly, to solve a disagreement is to use positive language
and look for similarities, not differences.

To be honest, I hate conflict of any sort. I am the kind of person who would go and
apologise. I guess through effective communication and boundaries, one can disagree in a
respectful way with parents.

CUE CARD – Describe a house or apartment you would like to live in

Speaking -Part 2 (Cue Card)

Describe a house or apartment you would like to live in.

  • What it is like?
  • Where it would be ?
  • Why you would like to live in this house/apartment ?
  • And how you feel about this house/apartment
Sample Answer

Home is the place where we all want to come back to after a long tiresome day. I do not want to live in a luxurious apartment, but rather a small house with three rooms and a small drawing area with a wide window, opening to the verdant view outside adding a little vintage touch to it. I want the walls bright coloured and a small space for the bookshelf wherein I would collect my all- time favourite novels and books.

Well, the cities today have become such a congested place to breathe, that we can hardly find a place, we can identify as home. So, I really wish my house to be surrounded by the lush green forests in the cradle of mother-nature, alongside a small river or lake, and the transcendental mountain-view followed by a clear blue sky.

Even though the house of my dreams would be very simple, I really want it to be well furnished with all the basic amenities like electricity, gas and clean drinking water. It should contain large windows from where the fresh breeze would flow in and out, while the chirping of birds would serve as a reminder for the fresh start of a new day.

I think living in my dream house would be one of the greatest feelings in the world, and with persistent hard work and dedication, I believe, I would someday be able to enjoy living in it.

Speaking -Part 3 (Follow up questions)

Here are some examples of follow up questions that examiner may ask during your speaking (part 3)related to cue card ‘Describe a house or apartment you would like to live in.’
Q1. Do most Indian people live in an apartment/house?
Well I think that it depends on person to person, as the older people like to live in a house rather than an apartment, whereas, youngsters nowadays are more inclined towards living in an apartment or flats. It also depends on the land availability of the region. For example, in metropolitan cities like Delhi, it is really difficult to find a piece of land with wide gardens, and so people accommodate themselves in tall apartments due to scarcity of land.

Q2. Do young people in your country like to live with their parents or by themselves?
It is a great question. I strongly believe that youth today wants to have a personal space of its own, rather than living under one roof with their parents. Moreover, since most of the young people have to shift nowadays as part of their studies or job, so they tend to live alone by themselves. Furthermore, today’s generation does not want to be dependent on anyone for managing their life, and thus, in order to feel responsible and able enough to not only gain, but also learn from their experiences, they prefer to live alone.
