Food travels thousands of miles from farmers to consumers. Some people think that it would be better for our environment and economy if people consumed locally produced foods.
To what extent do the advantages of this would outweigh the disadvantages?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant example from your own knowledge or experience.

Sample Answer

Due to modernisation and globalisation, people in different countries are able to enjoy varieties of foods in all seasons. This further makes a country or a region to focus on producing the best with the available resources in given climatic conditions.
Foods travel from local farmers to ultimate consumers and have to go through various stages to be sold in national or international markets. These stages may involve bulk-buying, processing, storing and packaging etc. It not only leads to increase in price of the food but also reduces its nutritional value. It has an adverse impact on our environment too. In order to avoid such problems, consumers can directly buy fresh and tasty foods from the local producers at reasonable prices.
Consuming locally produced foods also helps in controlling over-production and wastage of natural resources as there is no need to buy the food in bulk for the future storage. In addition, we can indirectly contribute in the growth of small and medium sized enterprises in every region. This will further boost the economic development of a country.
On the other hand, due to geographical and climatic reasons, all types of foods cannot be produced at one place. If we only buy goods from local farmers, we will not be able to enjoy varieties of foods throughout the year. Therefore, transporting food is the most viable option to cater to the needs of different regions.
So, in my opinion, we must try to consume the foods which are easily available locally but for enjoying the variety of foods throughout the year at a reasonable price, we have to buy foods from other regions as well. (274 Words)

Some people think that the best way to run a business is within the family.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a family run business?

SAMPLE ANSWER-

In many parts of the world, businesses are owned and run by families. Its usual contributors include close relatives who handle the resources and finances of an organization. There are some benefits associated with a family business, but there are also some drawbacks associated with undertaking a business venture with the family.

With the persistent commitment and involvement of the family members, firms run by families have a greater level of stability and loyalty attached to it. Even during bad times family ties can keep the firm running. The commitment of the family members results in more dedication and flexibility. In other words, members would work together to achieve a common goal irrespective of their qualifications. In fact, most successful business ventures like Walton’s and Ambani’s are also run within the families.

On the contrary, one of the most compelling shortcomings of a family business can be conflicts among the partners than can have an unfavorable effect on the business. For instance, the rivalry between husband and wife or siblings can result into the partition of the venture. In addition, the lack of interests among people to join family entrepreneurship leads to apathetic employees. And sometimes the successors of the business are not capable enough to run it due to which the organization suffers.

To conclude, there are both supporting and opposing arguments for a family business. Many experts believe that building an organization with family helps keep the family together. With communication and understanding, a dispute in family entrepreneurship can be avoided.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of renting a home?

SAMPLE ANSWER-

A safety and security a house provides is one of the biggest priority among people these days. But for some, there is another aspect of a house because investing in one is the biggest financial decision so they are contended by staying a place on lease. I will discuss the merits and demerits of renting a property in the forthcoming paragraphs.

There could be several factors why majority of people prefer living as a tenant. Primarily, people who are not certain about investing high monetary resources on property find it suitable to rent. Renting a property is advantageous mainly because it provides easy mobility and relocation especially when one is not sure about their stay in a particular city. Additionally, the responsibility and accountability like maintenance and repair are shared between the tenant and the landlord.

Alternatively, the real beneficiary is the owner of the house as the tenant does not get any return on the property. There is no stability as the person has to move from one place to another after the expiration of lease agreement. Furthermore, it increases the expenditure of packing and moving to the other place Moreover, the person who leases the place has to bear restrictions, such as not being able to modify the property according to their requirements and prohibition on keeping a pet.

To recapitulate, there are both benefits and drawbacks of rental accommodation in equivalent proportion. Though it reduces the expense of maintenance, in some cases, it leads to reduced sense of home security.

Nowadays, more people would rather purchase food than cook at home. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this trend?

Give ideas about which is better way according to you and why?

Due to the busy lifestyle, people are consuming more of the processed food in spite of cooking food for themselves. There could be several merits and demerits of this uprising trend. In my opinion, homemade food is far more beneficial as compared to the readymade food.

To commence with the benefits, packaged products such as pasta, noodles, etcetera are easily available in the market. They are instant food products and just need boiling or reheating which in turn save our time. Also, people get so tired after their hectic routine that they lack the energy to prepare meals. Therefore, they find useful to buy readymade food products. In addition, this type of processed foods is easy to carry everywhere, even while travelling. In fact, due to additives and taste enhancers, individuals, especially children, love their taste and their salivary buds are stimulated by these sort of meals.

Despite these benefits, there are ample drawbacks. Firstly, these products are processed and lack their natural nutrition. What is more, many preservatives are added to increase their shelf life which has several health hazards to consumers. For example, sodium benzoate is one of the popular compound used for preservation of packed foods which occasionally can be life-threatening. Secondly, although they are vacuum packed, they can get contaminated by various microbes and cause an abdominal disturbance sometimes causing other lethal diseases like food poisoning, botulinum and many more. Additionally, these products can also be expensive for the consumers to afford.

To recapitulate, I believe that the use of readymade foods has a plethora of detrimental effects and home-cooked food can provide plenty of nutrients to stay healthy and develop immunity.
