Technology has changed our lives to a great extent and has become an inseparable part of our routine. I look around today and see myself surrounded by technology in every direction. One such gift of technology is the mobile phone, with the primary function of calling people and sending text messages, it also serves innumerable other functions.
I still remember my first mobile phone as it was a turning point in my life. I had cleared my twelfth standard examinations and was preparing to go abroad for further studies. My father used to live in another city and wanted me to visit him during my summer break before college. He gifted me my first mobile phone then. It was a Sony Ericson smartphone, with internet and camera facility along with many other advanced features. I was extremely happy and started using it as I would need it for my solo travels and time spent away from home. I was immersed in that small piece of technology and fiddled through it to familiarize myself with its features.
It was very beneficial as I could be in constant touch with my family at all times, and made it possible to share everything including my whereabouts with them. It was an exhilarating experience streaming through videos, listening to music, taking pictures, and playing games. I found it very convenient to talk to my friends and show them new things that I came across. The smartphone had indeed changed my life a lot and that too for the better.

Music is one of the best things that have happened in this world. Its essence can be seen by the way it touches people’s hearts and invokes various emotions within. I am very fond of listening to music. I only listen to instrumental tracks when I work or study as they help me concentrate, but while lying idle or driving, I listen to a wide array of songs from different genres.
These can range from Rock to Jazz, depending on my feelings and whereabouts. A song that has a very special meaning to me is “Under Your Scars” by a band named Godsmack. I heard it first while looking for an older song from the band last year. The genre is Rock, and is sung and composed by the band’s lead singer, Sully Erna. The song is the most popular out of the album “When Legends Rise”. Sully Erna is an internationally renowned artist who is immensely popular in the Rock genre. His band is a commercially low profile band and I am a huge fan of it and the music.
The song is a rock ballad that invokes very strong emotions in my heart. It is about a person calling out his love and talking about their feelings and remembering the times when they were together. He urged his love on questions about things not going as planned. The lyrics are far more beautiful than how I show them, and I am in love with this song. I respect the singer from my heart and have been listening to this song every now and then ever since.

Learning is a continuous process that one undergoes throughout all his life. Schools are the starting phase of this journey where we learn a lot about various subjects. Such lessons stay with us all our lives. I still remember most of what I was taught in school but one particular lesson that I learned in my fifth standard math class is memorable.
I was taught mental math in a lesson during my fifth grade. Mental math is a way to calculate answers for simple mathematical problems using quick calculation skills and facts about mathematics. It helps me quickly solve through various complex problems by the use of methods such as division, multiplication or addition. Practicing mental math can enable us to mentally calculate without the need of writing. I have practiced the lesson to set it in my memory. It is effective, faster, and aids during tough situations that might require quick and logical thinking.
During this lesson I learned various methods to make calculations in different ways which save time during tests or other real-life situations. This lesson also motivated me to practice such exercises to become more adept at estimation and computation of larger figures eliminating the use of pen and paper. I am thankful to my school for providing me with such useful knowledge which is of practical importance in my everyday life.
