Describing Trends In Writing Task 1

When explaining the graph in the writing section, you are usually asked to compare or show a particular trend. While doing so, it is preferred that you use verbs or nouns to express it. For example, to show a particular increase or rise in something can be expressed using the following verbs/nouns.

VERBS-:
 ROSE(to)-: The number of women doing their bachelor’s has rose to 71% in 2013.
 INCREASED (to) -: Women pursuing their bachelor’s degree has increased to 71% in recent times.
 WENT UP (to)-: The number of women in associates’ degree went up by 68%.
 CLIMBED (to)-: The percentage of women completing their high school diploma or equivalent has climbed to 49%.
 BOOMED-: Women with the associate degree have boomed to 68% in the last year.

NOUNS-:
 A RISE-: There has been a rise in women doing the bachelor’s degree.
 AN INCREASE-: An increase can be seen in number of women doing higher degrees.
 GROWTH-: Certainly, there is growth amongst women wanting to pursue higher education.
 AN UPWARD TREND-: In recent times, an upward trend laying the importance of higher education can be seen in women.
 A BOOM-: There is a boom of women in higher education.

You can even present the above graph in a plain language such as; the this has increased from 59 to 98 or anything. But more you use such words, the better your paragraph, and the better your band. Also remember, you get more marks if you use a wide range of grammatical structure.

Things To Do IELTS Exam Day:

Pressure can take away from you even the things that you very well deserve. Follow the simple advice on the day of the exam-:

1.Plan to arrive early at the test venue, may be half an hour. Sometimes it so happens that you may end up stuck in the traffic and get late. There would be nothing worse than reaching at the test venue irritated, mentally tired and flurried.

2.Fully concentrate on the part of the test that you are doing, it might be possible that you are weak in a certain part, don’t keep on worrying about it. The more you focus on the present task the better the future will be.

3.Use your time effectively. Remember, each question has its own time, don’t just waste the entire time answering a particular question and leaving behind the others. You might not get extra marks if the answer is done perfectly.

4.Always recheck the answers. Sometimes, you may end up making mistake, which if corrected could lead to increase in marks.
No matter how hard you have worked, no matter how hard the teachers along with you have worked, In the end it is between you and the exam. Go out put in your heart and win the battle.

Reading Test Tips

The reading test consist is of one hour including the time to transfer the answers into the answer sheet. There are 40 questions in all that you need to answer.

STRUCTURE
The reading test consist of three sections.
1.Section 1-: The section has 2-3 texts relevant to basic linguistic survival in English. For example-: advertisement, schedules or travel brochures. The main task here is to provide factual information.
2.Section 2-: The second section involves work-related text/situations having more complex language.
3.Section 3-: the third section pays more emphasis on descriptive and instructive text rather than argumentative text. It has a longer text usually sourced from newspapers, magazines or internet.

There are a variety of question types that could be asked, although it is not specific as to which one will come in your test. They are-:

The Listening Section # FAQ

The listening test in IELTS last for approximately 30 minutes.

CONDUCT
The listening test has 40 questions and the audio is played only once. There are four sections and with every section you get time to read the questions. At the end of the test, you are given ten minutes to transfer your answers to the answer sheet. You are also given time to check your answers. You may hear various dialects in your listening test. They could be Australian, British American, Canadian, new Zealand and Irish.

FORMATThe listening test has four sections.
Section 1-: you may hear a conversation between two people about the general situations people face in their day to day life. It could be about booking a ticket or knowing about a job vacancy.
Section 2-: this section has a talk about a particular topic, given by a person. The talk may be about a tour, a concert or anything in general.
Section 3-: It has a discussion among tow or four people about a study related topic.
