SAMPLE ANSWER-

Throughout time, the possession of certain items has been linked to achieve a higher status or such as having a car. The ownership of expensive car brands indicates the financial superiority and marks an image in the mind of the people in the society. Therefore, in this materialistic world, people of different cultural and financial background want to have a four-wheeler.

In some countries, the majority of people cannot afford a car but with the emergence of options like car loans and the availability of second hand cars, everyone enjoys this privilege. Millennial today believe in giving a ‘good impression’ to others because of which they urge their elders to invest in fancy and latest models. Possessing a car has its own convenience, comfort which also comes with some liabilities like maintenance and environmental concerns.

Of course, my parents do own a car but I still prefer taking public transport in order to avoid the traffic on the congested roads of my country. Not everyone thinks the same way.

All in all, the utility of a car is replaced by the image and status symbol that it offers. With the booming economy and stagnant car prices, more and more people are getting influenced to purchase a car in the future. However, people consider ownership of expensive four-vehicle equivalent to a luxury. In addition, in the period of conscious environmentalism and hefty fuel prices, people must be more concerned about the pollution it causes rather than their own image and status.

Sample Answer

(Level Band9) Today I’m going to talk about a generous person who is well-known for his sincere efforts to help people from all walks of life. He is my neighbor Dr. Mehra, a physician. I have known him since I moved to Dehradun in 2000.

Dr. Mehra is in his 50s and he runs a clinic in the city center. Notably, he is an alumnus of the King George Medical Collge, Lucknow. Apart from treating patients in his clinic, he regularly organizes health camps in remote villages of Uttarakhand. His team distributes free medicines to patients and gives valuable advice to people about how to lead a disease free life.

This is a great help for village dwellers as medical facilities in these places are very poor. He has changed the lives of thousands of villagers in Uttarakhand. His determination to improve the public health in inaccessible regions is praiseworthy.

In fact, he is a role model for me. I met Dr. Mehra in 2000. Since we are neighbors, we know about each other’s work. I often accompany him as a volunteer in his health camps. Of course, if I am ill, he is the first person I call.

Cue Card # Describe a historical period/time you want to know more about.

IELTS Speaking Task # Cue Card historical period

Describe a historical period/time you want to know more about.
You should say:

  • which period it is
  • how you know about this period of history
  • what its importance is in history

and explain what you want to know more about this period.

SAMPLE ANSWER-

My country, India is quite recognized for its rich and prosperous history. One such historical period was the Indus Valley civilization that existed long back but its prevalence was recently revealed in the 1900s by an Archeological survey. It was believed to be the core of art and culture during those days.

When I first studied about this civilization in class and the planning of this period’s urbanization, it captivated me to a great extent. It was the first time that I took interest in history while learning about this time period. I learned that even in that era when there were limited resources available, the people of Indus Valley civilization enjoyed a highly developed city life.

This mysterious civilization was situated on the banks of the river Indus, the present day Pakistan. I think that it’s an important part of the historical culture as the town-planning and water management system which the people followed during that time is an excellent example for the modern world. Despite the absence of educational facilities, it is said that people who belonged to this time period had built well equipped sanitary facilities and harvesting system as well. When I further looked at the remains of artifacts of this civilization, I was actually convinced that citizens of this civilization led a comfortable and luxurious life.

I’m keen to learn more this time period and what led to its destruction. Though the town had well managed farming and architectural construction, archeologists are carrying on their research related to the specific cause of its disappearance. It is said that today’s world has a lot to learn about urbanization and administration from the remains of the Indus Valley civilization.

Cue Card # interesting news

IELTS Speaking latest cue card 2016.

Describe an interesting news about which people were very excited
You should say:
• what the story was
• who was involved in the story
• where you read or heard about this story
• And explain why this news story was interesting to you.

Sample Answer One:

I read the newspaper regularly. Today, I’m going to talk about a latest news that was exciting for many people.
The story was about India’s biggest test victory outside Asia. The Indian cricket team thrashed West Indies by an innings and 92 runs in the first test match. This was a challenging match as the opponents are known for their record breaking runs in test cricket.
I think this win was particularly crucial for the Indian team to prove their potential as the team was playing with a new coach. Apart from that, there were many young players who were participating in their first international test match. The result of this match was an achievement for the whole team and the nation.
Since cricket is a very popular sport in my hometown, almost everyone in my neighborhood was talking about this match. I found it fascinating because cricket is my favorite sport and I am the captain of my school team. We have played many state and national level matches. In the future, I want to be a part of the Indian cricket team so that I can bring laurels to my country. This thumping victory was very motivating and encouraging to me because I am a bowler and bowlers can be the game changers in this unpredictable game.

Sample Answer Two: (Writer: Akshay Tomar)

The other day I was browsing through the internet, when I read an article on some mind-blowing facts about Indian railways.
The article was about the maiden journey of Indian railway that was on April/16/1853 between Mumbai n Thane and its glorious history. Though, one theory suggests as per the archives of IIT Roorkee’s report on the Ganga Canal (1860) first train ran between Roorkee and Piran Kaliyar on Dec/22/1851.
The article was extensively covering about the history of India railways, as well some amazing facts were shared…… Indian railway has world’s fourth longest railway network, daily more than 23 million people travel with Indian rails. A train by the name “Fairy Queen” was certified by Guinness World Record as the world’s oldest steam locomotive in regular operations, in the year 1998. Under construction Chenab Railway Bridge, in the state of Jammu and Kashmir is expected to be one of the highest railway bridge when completed. As well four of the Indian railway sites have been declared “world heritage site” by UNESCO, they are Darjeeling year 1999, Mumbai CST Building 2004, Neelgiri Mountain Railways 2005, Kalka Shimla Railway 2008.
Throughout the years that I have spent in my country, I never realized that we have such a glorious past in the terms of Indian railway and this article certainly makes me proud of my country and its accomplishments.(228 Words)
