IELTS Speaking # Clothing

There are different styles of clothing in this world. Different cultures have their own traditional styles which they prefer wearing and it is all very unique. Let us today have a look at some of the questions related to clothing .

What traditional clothes do people from your country wear?

Women in my country tend to wear sari or salwar-suit while men wear kurta-pyjama. Sari is a meter long cloth which is designed in some or the other form and is draped along the body. Salwar suit is similar to the pant and shirt but the shirt is longer and the pant has more space. Similar to salwar suit is kurta pyjama but it comes in different forms.

When do you wear them?

Traditional clothes are worn in normal daily life with most of the people across my country. However, with corporate life striking in, people tend to wear them more during festivals like Diwali or Holi or Raksha Bandhan. Traditional clothes are also worn during marriages.

Are they comfortable?

I think it is more about what you are habitual wearing. People who wear traditional clothes find them more comfortable because they are used to. The ones who don’t wear them often, initially find it difficult, but for the most part, they are very comfortable.

Do you think there’s a difference between” fashion ” and “style” ?

I believe fashion is what is outside, so we have got fashion trends, things that most of the people at a particular time do. Like, wearing scarfs or certain kinds of pins. But, style is what comes from within. So, no matter you are following the fashion trend or not, if you are stylish, you can go a long way. Because, you can very well express yourself and it comes in everything that you do.

How often do you go clothes shopping?

I buy clothes when I need them. So, last time when I went shopping it was because I had to buy a pair of jeans and some kurtis. Right now, I have enough clothes to wear everyday and still not be bored by them.

Would you bring your husband/boyfriend with you when you go clothes shopping?

I would love to, but only when I find that they are comfortable shopping with me. Because, shopping truly is in itself a big task. You have to go shop by shop and then look at different clothes and so many more things. So, if they are happy finding clothes for me and helping me on it, by their wish, I will surely. But, if they find it hassle, I’d prefer going alone or with friends.

What do you like to shop for the most?

Mostly, I shop for books. I am a bibliophile in that way and the moment I finish a book, I jump on to other. Most of the time, I have a buffer of books. So, if in case I am not able to buy a book, I have got a set of unread books at my hand.

Where is your favorite shopping centre?

I think in my city, there is this mall, Pal City Mall, I like going out there when I have to buy lot of things together. Like books and clothes and bags or may be go for parlor as well. It is a nice place with all of these things and the quality of products available is also nice.

What is your favorite brand?

For clothes, I think my favorite brand would be W. I like its kurtis because they are very feminine and subtle and then yet very loud. Also, I feel very comfortable wearing them. When it comes to shoes, I mostly go for either action or bata. I think they are pretty good.

Are you a shopaholic?

No, I am one of those who would shop only when required.

Do you go to many shops before buying one particular item or do you just buy the first one you find?

It depends. You know there are things that just strike your eyes and you are like fall in love with them. It is only when I fall in love with things that I go out and buy them. So, if I find that one thing in a shop I go ahead, but if in any way I am not satisfied I prefer going to the next shop.

Have you ever felt uncomfortable with what you wear?

Yes, there is this top that I had and I loved it but I was not very comfortable wearing it because my body structure at that time was such that it was dragging down.

Did your parents ever make you wear something you didn’t like?

Most of the times. I remember as a child I had to wear what they said. There was this top that I had and really did not liked it, because it used to itch a lot when I wore it. But, because it was warm and everything I had to wear it. However,  I think at that time it did not even bothered me as to what I was wearing. Because, joy was somewhere else.

Do you like to go shopping during the sales?

Yes, of course. I mostly go for shopping only during sales. Because, you can get the same thing at a cheaper price, most often 50% less. So, why not!

IELTS Speaking 2021 Cue Card: A person who knows a lot about something

IELTS Speaking 2021 Cue Card: A person who knows a lot about something

Describe someone who knows a lot about something

You should say:

  • Who he/she is
  • Where he/she lives
  • What he/she does
  • Explain why you think he knows a lot.
Sample Answer:

I’ve met many knowledgeable people in my life. Today, I’m going to talk about a person who knows a lot about automobiles.

His name is Gagan Agarwal. Originally, he is from a small town in Panjab but his family moved to Delhi 5 years ago. So, now, he lives in Delhi with his parents.

Gagan works as an executive car designer in Suzuki, a renowned automobile company. He is appointed in the head office in Delhi. He completed his Bachelor’s of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Delhi in 2015. Thereafter, he was selected by Suzuki.

I feel that Gagan is a towering intellectual. Despite being a fresh graduate, he was offered a place in a world-class organization. Many senior people struggle for years to join such companies. He made it in the first year of his career. That’s is definitely a remarkable achievement. Unquestionably, the credit for this goes to his in-depth knowledge of various disciplines of mechanical engineering and his creativity.

Another reason why I think he is brilliant is that he is an active learner. Normally, when anyone starts working, they don’t pay attention to improving their knowledge or skills. But, this is not the case with Gagan. He is always willing to expand his knowledge and learn new skills. He often reads magazines and attends seminars to keep him up to date with the latest technology. All these things make him different from others. I can’t stop admiring him. He is a role model for me.

IELTS CUE CARD #Describe an important decision/ choice that you made in your life.

Describe an important decision/ choice that you made in your life.

You should say:

  • what the decision/choice was
  • when you took this decision
  • What the result of the decision was and whether it was a good choice.

and explain why it was an important decision or choice for you.

Sample Answer :

Making decisions by myself has always been the most difficult part about growing up. I’ve at times preferred introspecting by myself and at very major situations I’ve discussed the issue with my family and friends. One decision that I’ve struggled to make in my life was that about what stream to pursue after my high school. My parents thought that the field of technology was appropriate for me while on the other hand I felt that I could do so much better with arts. I made this decision when I was 19 years of old, just after finishing my 12th grade. My parents never forced their decision upon me instead they always advised me to pursue what my heart wanted. My dad always suggested that I should do what I thought was best for me. Everyone assumed my decision to be immature and stupid and thought that I was a fool.

But after giving time and thought to the decision making and keeping in mind the several issues and perspective I decided to get myself enrolled to a university that offers degree in designing. I’m very happy that I made this decision. I’ve yet a year to finish my graduation but throughout the last 3 years I have enjoyed working on lot of creative projects and I am doing quite well academically.

I must point out that making this choice was not easy and I had to go through a very hard time. I had to fight a lot with my inner self and then convince my parents for the same. There were always lot of potential risks of picking the option I prefer my parents would have complained if I hadn’t made a success out of myself. I still remember the sleepless nights and dubious feelings I had that time. Sometimes I thought of giving up on my passion and yield to my parents’ decision and but I made myself realise that I shouldn’t give up so easily on something that I’m really good at. Since I made my own choice at that time, a strong urge and force worked on me that I have to do really good and I am happy that I took my decision and doing very good so far.

IELTS Cue Card # Famous Person

IELTS Cue Card # Famous Person

Describe a famous person you would like to meet.
You should say:

  • who is he/ she
  • why do you want to meet him/ her
  • why he is famous
  • and explain what would you do if you meet him/ her.

famous-person, September 4, 2018 Chief Editor Leave a comment Edit Post IELTS BAND7 Cue Card DEHRADUN

SAMPLE ANSWER ONE

There are more than seven billion people on this planet and not everyone is well known. Famous people are all over the world and we all like to follow them and know about them. Although there are quite a few personalities that I follow, one individual that I am a big fan of is Kailash Satyarthi. He is a social activist who has been working against atrocities committed in the society and has pledged his life towards the eradication of child labour.
He is a Nobel Peace Prize winner of the year 2014 and is the founder of the organisation called Bachpan bachao andolan (BBA) which translates to “Save Childhood movement”. He founded the organisation in late 1990’s and has been working as a socialite ever since. As we know committing crime is very easy in our country and due to poverty and lack of education millions of kids are forced to work when they should be at school and enjoying their childhood. A learned man, Satyarthi is a chemical engineer by profession. He left his lucrative career and he has liberated more than 80,000 child labours since he took the initiative.
In these modern times where the world is so selfish it is very difficult to come across a man who has done so much for the society without thinking about himself. It would be a great honour to meet a man of such stature and magnitude who has received so many accolades and awards for his relentless humanitarian work. His approach to life and selfless attitude is something that never fails to amaze me. He is a true hero and an inspiration for millions in my country.

SAMPLE ANSWER TWO

There have been many personalities I have followed but the one that has truly made an impact on my life has to be Oprah Winfrey. I believe she is a true example of how following your dreams can let you live a meaningful life. Being raped as a child and told that it is her duty to do the household work, she did not let these negativities hold her back. The fact that she believed that she is meant to be successful is what amazes me the most. The reason I really want to meet her is because

She signifies to be as a person who does not think of the issues ahead, rather the great work that needs to be done. This makes it so much more intimidating to meet her. And what I have learned about her is that she has actually lived a balanced life. I wish to learn from her the way of balancing the life and making difference in other people’s life.

I think the day I meet her I would ask her five advice for my life because I do trust that they will be great ones!

SAMPLE ANSWER THREE

If there ever is a famous person I would like to meet, it has to be Raghuram Rajan. He has been one of the most successful RBI governors our country had. Even more, he became the Economic Counselor and Director of Research of the International Monetary Fund, the youngest ever. What made all eyes turning to him is his prediction of the 2008 global crisis.

I am not an economist and neither do understand it well. But I really wish to understand what goes inside one of the most brilliant minds of our country. He has been one of those people who has actually allowed the economy of our country to boost. Over time, we all have seen that when his advice was given consideration, there were losses prevented. However, when they were avoided, we have paid the price.

I want to meet him and know his opinion on our country and what he thinks is the right thing for our country. There is something in me that tells that we as young people should definitely do for our country. I would like to interact with him and know how doing what I love can I do something for my country.
