Television Dominance # Essay For IELTS

Television dominates the free time of too many people. It can make people lazy and prevent them from socializing with others.

Do you agree or disagree?

Write at least 250 words.

Answer

Television is a major source of entertainment for people these days and its craze has been increasing with the innumerable channels and programs available. Watching television does not involve any physical exercise and gives rise to laziness which might also lead to health problems.

Nowadays, people have a lot of stress in their lives due to busy work schedules and are unable to make the time to go out for any kind of entertainment. As this is the cheapest and the most easily available source of recreation, people resort to watching television more than anything. ‘Couch potato’ is a term which has been coined for those who watch television excessively. Most people sit at home with family or friends and watch programmes all day long. Due to this, people tend to get lazy, obese and prefer to stay at home and spend most of their time watching television rather than utilizing it by doing something productive.

Television means being indoors most of the time and no social activity is involved. This leads to people turning into introverts and losing social skills. People who only watch television start avoiding social situations which involves talking to people and being in their company. This can also become a problem which might result in diseases like insomnia and schizoid.

It can be concluded that watching too much television can have many negative consequences like becoming lazy, putting on weight and lack of social skills. But if it is watched in a limited and constrained manner all these negative effects can be avoided.

Moving To New City # Letter For IELTS

You are moving to a new city for work. You know a friend who lives there.

  • Ask the friend for help in looking for an accommodation.
  • Tell the friend where you would like to live
  • Tell the friend the type of place you are looking for

Write at least 150 words.

Answer

Dear Samaira,

I am writing to you to let you know that I will be shifting to Bangalore as I have secured the post of a Manager at a reputed company there. I would need your help to look for a suitable accommodation as I am unaware about the areas and cost of rent.

The accommodation should not be more than 10 kilometres away from my office but is it is closer, it would be much better. I do not need a very big place, just need a two room set with attached bathrooms, a living room and a kitchen as I do not have a family to accompany me. Thought the extra room would be beneficial if I have guests or friends over at my place. The range I can afford it in would be roughly around 10,000 rupees as anything more than that would make a hole in my pocket.

The place can be either an apartment or a house which need not be independent. The most important part of the accommodation should be its ventilation and lighting which should be more than sufficient. It would be great if you could send me a list of such options within a week as I need to join work next month.

Yours Truly,

Sarita Uppal

Issues In School Course # Letter For IELTS

You have recently enrolled in an evening school course. Write a letter to the director about something you are not happy with. You should include:-

  • Give details of the course
  • Explain what the problem is?
  • What do you expect the school to do?

Write at least 150 words.

Answer

Dear Sir/ Madam,

This is to bring to your notice that I recently enrolled in a course at your institute which runs evening classes. The course I took up is a Certificate in Patisserie for 3 months duration and I commenced it 3 days ago. It is a 2 hour class which begins at 6 in the evening.

Before I joined this course I was given to understand that I would be receiving all the material and equipment from the institute and that the cost for the same was included in the total tuition fee that I deposited. When I went for my first class a few days back I was asked to deposit an extra Rs. 5000 for the material and equipment that would be used during the course.

I was astounded when this information was given to me and upon me inquiring about this from the admissions officer, I was not provided with a clear answer rather told to discontinue classes if the amount remained unpaid. Moreover, the receipt that I received clearly mentions for the provision of supplies for the course.

I would be obliged if this matter could be settled as soon as possible as I cannot miss classes and waste precious time.

Yours Truly,

Parul Oberoi

Issues With Credit Cards # Essay For IELTS

In many countries it is very easy to apply for and be issued a credit card. However, this causes some people some problems with debts they cannot pay back. Do the advantages of a credit card outweigh the disadvantages?

Write at least 250 words.

Answer

The world today has become a majorly cashless society and the use of plastic money has crept in. plastic money as one refers to it means the use of credit cards and debit cards instead of real paper money. Credit cards have made people’s lives easier since it has reduced the use of paper money to quite an extent which in turn has made the mode of payment simpler with just a swipe.

Many countries including India as well, most of the people have credit cards as they are very easy to obtain from the banks which issue them. People from all walks of life, be it a student, a businessman or even a homemaker have a number of credit cards with which they make everyday payments for something or the other. The best part about owning one is that a person does not have to carry cash all the time and is also less time consuming as no money needs to be withdrawn from the account for any payments. These days all kinds of payments can be done with a credit card via the internet whether it is shopping online or payment of bills. Even if people do not have sufficient money in their savings account, a credit card can be used for payment up to a certain limit.

Though a credit card may seem the need of the hour by many people in this seemingly cashless society, yet it may have certain repercussions like over spending. People, who are impulsive shoppers may spend money uselessly on items that are not required by them just because they have the capacity to pay via a credit card though they do not actually have the money. This created debs for such people which leads to the accrual of debts. The return of the money overdrawn on a credit card attracts an interest, late or non-payment of this will lead to this interest being added to the actual amount. Hence, people will fall in debt unable to come out of it which might also lead to legal consequences as well.

In can be concluded that a credit card does make life easier for people in terms of payment for purchases made in today’s era but one should be careful not to be too free in its use and have a frugal attitude towards its usage.
